Spinoff to Fake bags post.

I'm curious...maybe I'm just not that into the mindset, but why do you mind spending $800 to $1400 on a bag?

I'm not looking to start drama or offend and I'm NOT judging, I swear, seriously, I'm just curious b/c I just couldn't ever justify the purchase, so I guess I need to know how people do.

I felt the same way until we were able to completely afford it. I also regularly give $$ to charities and to help those in need (not that I should need to justify my purchases)....I wanted to buy something really extravagant for myself...I was feeling really dowdy after being a SAHM for awhile and I just wanted to buy something that made me feel good. Nothing more to it.

work hard- play hard - and I work very hard

I don't get new bags monthly- but when my DH has a great month- I get a treat for myself

I get 1 or 2 a year

I would rather get 1 designer bag a year then 10 $100 bags

i wouldn't unless it was a one of a kind bag that is a staple in your wardrobe like a classic chanel bag, otherwise i buy bags that i like, the most i have spend on a bag was 100.

it just makes you feel good, I feel like I work hard and when I uy myself something expensive I feel like it is my reward

I think in a lot of cases people don't go from spending $50 on a bag to $1000.

I think what happens is you step it up a notch and spend $250 one day. Then your next bag you think - well I want a nicer one...and $250 seems affordable now so you spen $400. Then Next time it might be $700, and so on...

Once you buy a nicer bag it raises the bar and it goes from there.


eta: A few of my fav designer bags I have literally had for YEARS - 5 years at least and I still use them all the time and still get compliments on them. I am sure I will be using them for many years to come - so for me they are worth every penny.

also- you used to be able to get a nice Gucci bag for $595

but the prices have sky rocketed in last 3 or 4 years- when the euro got stronger then the dollar

now that same Gucci bag is $895

but there is always the outlet in woodbury

you don't have to pay full price!

When I worked in the city and got big commission checks I bought myself nice bags all the time without giving it a second thought.

My parents have also bought me a few bags.

Now that I'm a SAHM I don't do it anymore - because, well honestly, where do I really go - that I don't use my diaper bag (which is Gucci so I guess I still use a designer bag) - anyway - I haven't bought a bag in ages - but still have all the great ones sitting in my closet waiting to be used once again!

I also love BIG bags - so I have all I need for now. I'm sure down the road I will want another - but for now, I'm happy!

The most money I (well DH) spent was on my LV Alma bag. However I do buy D&B on an almost monthly basis because I change bags every few days depending on what I am wearing. And I buy colors based on season. For the record I also buy well made bags that may not be household names too.

In my industry investing in 1 really expensive bag can be viewed as a negative-kinda like wow thats the only bag she has and will wear the sh$t out of it kiind of deal but of course my industry is really shallow. (I am not but hey you gotta play the game to make the $$$ and so far it has worked for me.

I used to never spend more than $100 on a bag until I got my first Coach bag. once I got 1, there was no turning back lol

I wanted more, and then bigger and better. there is nothing like a quality bag. it's like wearing a beautifult outfit - it makes you feel really good about yourself.

I have since moved on from Coach to other designers. I get some pretty decent deals at Saks off 5th.

I am not a big fan of logo bags, but I would love to buy a Gucci some day. a bag like that is classic and will be in style forever.

Just like we have expensive e-rings/diamonds, $$$$ flat TVs, $$$ cars.

It feels "good" to have nice things. A reward to ourself. Because it is not something we can afford everyday, so we feel very special and "treasure" it. We have a better appreaciation for it. Since we work so hard to buy the bag. Well, most of us!

ETS: Not that I buy luxury brands...most I've spent was $800 on a bag.

dh bought me LV trouville bag 2 years ago, but now with on the way we wouldn't spend $ like that on a bag. we had no problem spending like that before when it was only the two of us, but priorities change

I have never bought anything more than a coach, but if I could I would. The OP asked why, I say why not! If you can afford it then go for it. Its your life, your $$, your bag to enjoy. Someday I hope to have a really nice bag!

I feel 100% put together with a nice bag! As someone said, I work hard so I might as well buy something enjoyable with my $.

Also a bag will always fit, unlike clothes. Buying a designer bag seems a better investment than shoes or an outfit because you can use it everday.

I have a bag wardrobe and they make me feel good.

Exceot for my LV, which was a 30th bday gift, I have treated myself and it felt really good to do so!
