SPINOFF to first shoes thread

the dr told me at Alys 9 mth check up the other day that Idont need to get her the first pair of "real" shoes till she is actually walking.

she stands up holding the furniture and is just attempting to start cruising around it. does she need shoes yet?

when did you ladies get the first pair of real shoes? did you wait till they were walking?

we have wood floors and she is slipping a lot because of that so I thought maybe it was time even though the dr didnt feel it was...

also, how much do the first stride rite shoes cost?

TIA!

Re: SPINOFF to first shoes thread

I got her robeez so she wouldn't slip on my hardwood floors, she loves them. She's been wearing them since aobut 8 months old.

I just bought her a 2 pair of Pediped's to wear inside and outside. they have very soft cushiony soles

DD is cruising all over and crawling, I refuse to buy hard bottom shoes til she's over 2 years old. barefoot is best i have been told by ped.

Stride ride is about 30-40 bucks for shoes unless you have coupons or use Shoebuy.com

Pedipeds cost me 29 bucks each.

we waited until DS was walking well. They say barefeet is the best for foot development.

We do barefoot or robeez in the house, we have hard floors too. I have a pair of Nike's for DS to wear when we are out. When he is full on walking I will get him a pair of good shoes from Stride Rite but again only to wear while out and about. In the house no need for shoes.

Re: SPINOFF to first shoes thread

I bought Ella shoes this weekend because she was slipping on our floors and its still a bit cold to go barefoot on the hardwood. She wants to be standing/cruising ALL the time, and she's had a good number of bumps to her head.

After seeing how much more stable she is in the shoes, I bought her more. She doesn't wear them most the time, but I think she's old enough now to be wearing shoes when we go out. Also with the weather getting nicer, we'll be outside and in the grass more.

The stride rite shoes I bought (all 3 pairs Chat Icon ) were each under $25 after sales and discounts.

ets: all the shoes have a soft cushiony bottom. Not a hard bottom. Stride rite has a "stage 2" line which is designed for crawling and beginning walkers.

DH bought Jordana a pair of Pumas. She only wears them outside- and since she doesn't walk otuside yet- they really are just to keep her feet warm.

DD has tiny feet, she isn't even a size 3 yet :)

Are they too big for her maybe? I put DD's on over socks, maybe that could help?

Pedipeds, i bought them right from their website-www.pedipeds.com

A friend of mine has them and they are like they are walking with barefeet but protected. They are much cuter than robeez too, they have a soft leather bottom but can be used outside whereas robeez are only for light outside use.

Re: SPINOFF to first shoes thread

I got Kevin his first pair of "real shoes" when he started walking outside. So about 13-14 months. He started walking at 12 months but was never outside so I stuck with my Robeez and socks until then. I have all hardwood and he never had a slipping issue in Robeez or non slip socks. He was cruising from 8-12 months.

He has been wearing Robeez since like 7-8 months til now at 2 and never had a slipping issue (slipping off his feet) but has always worn socks with them.

thanks! I will try the pedipeds site. humph. maybe the robeez are too big. I bought 6-12 mths because she is 9mths but her feet are kinda small..mayve a 3-ish? Id think the 0-6 would be too smal though? what suze does Gianna wear? thanks for your responses!!!

I think they must be too big for her then. B/c the way they fit they're made to really stay on. DD is 9 mos old but still wearing the 0-6 mos. I got her. I have the 6-12 mos pair waiting for her but the 06 still fit so I'm sticking with them for now. if they fit they really stay on b/c she loves to tug on shoes and she can't get them off despite her efforts.

Re: SPINOFF to first shoes thread

I wait till they are walking. My DS is cruising and we have wood floors. I keep him barefoot unless its really cold, which for the most part, its not in our house. His feet are too chubby for Robeez or any other soft soled shoes so I put Old Navy socks with treads if necessary. When he's walking I'll get him his first walkers @ SR. They hae XX wide which he will need for his feet.
