Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
What/Where was the best meal you have ever had and why?
For me it was Casa La Femme in Soho (I think its now on the east side somewhere).
It was a seven course price fix middle eastern dinner. You sit on the floor in your own little tent, in your own little world. My DH and I were there for at least 3 hours. The food was wonderful and different. We were not rushed at all, it was the most romantic, relaxed and enjoyable dinner that I have ever had!
The best meal I have had is the crispy red snapper at sushi samba. LOVE it!

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
wow I honestly could not answer that.
Some of the most memorable meals (for food, not occasion) are: Dino's in London. Ton of food, great mixture of tastes & great price.
I forgot the name of it, but there was also a Chinese restaurant in Luton (england as well) that has the most amazing moo shu duck I ever had!
In NY there are so many great restaurants I would not be able to pick

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
the best meal i've ever had wasn't super fancy but... it was at a mongolian barbeque place in NJ- JP Lees. its basically like a make-your-own lo mein, and then they throw it on the "grill" to cook it for you. the food is awesome, but it was more becasue i was there with about 16 really close friends- including 2 who had just gotten back from iraq. we went there at christmas time before headnig into the city to see the tree and stuff... just so nice to be with everybody and talking and laughing the best FOOD i've ever had was probably at Ruth's chris steak house... just a great seasoned steak, and an incredible blueberry cremem brulee for dessert

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
I have had some wonderful meals... All tasting menus. The top have been a custom vegetarian menu at August, which is in New Orleans, Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian at Disney-- and I also love Aquavit- it is wonderful every time I am there.
There are some other fabulous ones-- but those are the top three.

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
Ooh, just ate at the Gramercy Tavern last weekend, so delicious. I had roasted oysters for an appetizer, monkfish as a main course, and cheesecake for desert.
It's up there with great meals I've had, including dinner at Craft and Dylan Prime.
Also, in Hawaii, Mama's Fish House and Nick's Fish Market were excellent! Best seafood I've had.

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
the first time I went to Italy, I went to Bologna SPECIFICALLY b/c it is known to have some of the best food in italy.
it was definitely worth the trip. I must have eaten atleast 4 MEALS, and everything was just outstanding.
simple, straightforward, and delicious.
I have also been known to make a MEAN bolognese sauce at home. sometimes i knock my own socks off.
a few french rest. I also like in the city have been outstanding.

Aquavit NYC Last time I was there, Marcus Samuelsson (the executive chef) came out to the bar while I was waiting with my friend, chatted with us, went back to the kitchen and and then sent us some cavier and lobster concoction to try. Eating there to me is more than a meal, it is an experience.

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
Per Se restaurant in the Time Warner building..We had a 9 course chef's testing meal that was out of this world...
Also, Shintaro restaurant in the Bellagio Hotel in LV...that is where I tested a $90 a piece Toro tuna (1 sushi piece was $90 ), we went with a highroller (who paid) who didn't care...they also had a sushi made of blue dolphin but I refused to eat it...there are only 100 of them in the world....
Also, a small taverna in town of Firostefani, Santorni, Greece...

It was at Avalon in Maui, Hawaii. Such amazing and exotic fresh seafood dishes! It's no longer there (I visited a long time ago).

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
The best French experience I've ever had was at La Goulue. We were there with my cousin and her boyfriend at the time who was a BIG spender. So we had carte blanche. It was amazing. Ahhh, to be rich instead of poor and so dang cute.

Fleur de Lys in San Francisco
My brother was visiting me when I lived there. He is a chef so we splurged on one big meal and went to Fleur de Lys. We had a several course Prix-fixe meal, with wines that complimented each dish. It was incredible food and the ambiance was beautiful. It was an experience, not just a meal.

I am so jealous!!! but we might be there in August..
The restaurant is called Vanilia and it is in the old mill right next to a church, short walk from Fira (capital of Santorini)...there is also an Italian place next to it (forgot the name) which is considered best Italian food on the island!! Love it also...
There are also few great places in Oia...I try to stay away from Fira..too touristy....not too authentic Greek food....
You will have a great time!! My favorite Greek island!!

Morton's Steakhouse, and the only reason I say that is because had it been socially acceptable I would've gotten on the table and bathed in the mashed potatoes, they were so good!

Re: Spinoff to food snob spinoff....
The seafood restaurant at the Venetian in Vegas-forget the name. A cousin of ours got us a comped meal for five- $800 limit. We ate ourselves sick with surf and turf. Unfornately I was pregnant at the time and could not have the very expensive wine too!
