Spinoff to Formula - How do you know which one to buy?
I am going to try to BF, but I want to have some formula on hand as well. Does the hospital/Ped tell you what kind to use? Or is this going to become my new reseasrch project? TIA!

I had to supplement for 1 bottle per day for 2 weeks when DS was 2-3 weeks old.
I just used the free samples I got from the formula CO. I even swapped formula from one kind for the one I needed.

Normally they will start you with Similar Advance...what most hospitals use or the Enfamil.
From there is when they will notice if there are allergies and change it from there if needed.

i supplemented with what the hospital gave us. And we brought some home from there. Then when it was time to buy it, we just stuck with that kind.

Take as many samples as you can from the hospital....our nurse was great, she would load us up with a bunch each day

Yep. And I wouldn't buy a ton either. Ask for a bag in the hospital and they will give it to you, even if you are going to BFing.
We had a bunch of Similac leftover when DS was switched to Gentlease and that was at 8 weeks old.

winthrop has a list of which formula each dr. prefers to prescribe. They'll start your little one on that if you want them giving any formula otherwise your pediatrician will tell you which one he usually recommends.
