Ryan eats, plays and then starts to get cranky. In order to get him to sleep, we hold him, bounce him, shush him. My mom and DH can get him to fall asleep on their chests, but I haven't been able to do that. He definitely loves lying on his stomach on Daddy or Grandma. We may be creating a bad habit, who knows. He can't really get himself to sleep on his own yet. Hope that helps!!

DD always naps in her swing. She cries and wakes up when I put her in her crib. She slept in her crib most of the night last night but I still haven't been successful during the day.

Re: spinoff to fussing when putting dc down for a nap: please share your dc's nap routine!
every day i wake spencer up at 7 am. that's right i said 7 am. bless all you moms that get up at 5!! we are usually busy in the morning because i have to get the other two to school, so breakfast and showers for them and a bath for spencer, all the while i have on the disney channel and they watch it or not and play. at 10 am i put spencer in his crib give him his blanket and walk out of the room. he will usually wine for about 30 seconds then decides for himself that yes i am tired i am goiing to sleep. he sleeps about 1 hour and a half. when he wakes up we play until 3 when i do the same thing just put him down and walk away. this time he sleeps 2 hours, and in this time i am doing homework and cooking dinner. then he wakes up we have the rest of the night and then he goes down to bed around 8 830. everyday, everynight, it never changes. (btw, this is the first of my 3 babies who has ever been this cooperative)

Re: spinoff to fussing when putting dc down for a nap: please share your dc's nap routine!
Ella likes to fall asleep on my shoulder/chest while I "beat her butt" (ie: pat her on the bottom - the fussier she is, the firmer the patting). If we're home, I try to do this in the glider in her room. If she's cranky (which she usually is if she's fighting a nap) I'll shush her while patting.
I'll put her down drowsy or asleep, and often stand with my hand on her while she settles in. Sometimes she needs a pacifier too.
We just moved her to her crib/room, so I'm trying to establish a routine with her napping in there also.
At the "office" my mom will usually take her for a walk in the stroller for her afternoon nap.
The "routine" varies from day to day, but I try to get her to bed around 8pm, nurse her if she wakes during the night, and depending on when stirs in the am, we'll usually bring her into our bed (generally around 6-7am) to get a few more hours of sleep out of her (today she slept till 9!). Then she'll eat, and be up for 1-2 hours before napping. I'm trying to have her nap every 2-3 hours. She sleeps much better at night if she's napped well.
