Spinoff to GD post....Does anyone have the diet?
I don't have GD so far this pregnancy, but since my DD was soo large, I was tested for it at about 7 weeks.
My OB said that it is a great diet to follow, for me, as well as for the baby. He suggested that I see a Nutritionist, but my insurance won't cover it unless I have the proof that I actually already have GD.
Does anyone have the food plan, or know where I can find it?
Thanks, Tara

Re: Spinoff to GD post....Does anyone have the diet?
Be careful not to follow the diet too strictly however because you may begin spilling ketones in your urine. Basically ketones means that you are burning your fat reserves instead of the the food you are eating because you are not taking in enough carbs (a la south beach diet or atkins). ketones are bad for the baby so if you are going to follow the GD diet try to buy the over the counter ketone test strips to make sure you are taking in the right amount of carbs. That's why its good to meet with a nutrionist because they will work with you to come up with the right amount of carbs. HTH

Re: Spinoff to GD post....Does anyone have the diet?
I had GD with my first pregnancy, pretty much i had to watch the carb intake, and eat more smaller meals. If i did want a high carb food, like pizza.. i could only have 1 slice and would have to balance it out with a large salad. I was told salads prevent some of the carbs from being absorbed.
