Spinoff to Internal question
I hate to make you girls be graphic - BUT - when you say INTERNAL what exactly does that mean??? Are they sticking something inside? Do they just use there hands (fingers?)
And how far in do they go to actually make you bleed?
I'm sorry for the TMI question - but I am very curious and would rather know what I am getting into beforehand.
THANKS!

Re: Spinoff to Internal question
She went pretty far with her fingers! It didn't hurt alot just a little uncomfortable. It did make me cramp after and bleed. I remember I was in Outback and was having bad cramps!

Re: Spinoff to Internal question
Ok - well then I have a very stupid question - isn't that where our DH's go when we do the deed? How come that doesn't make us bleed? Or do the doctors go some other route??
Completely stupid I KNOW!

Re: Spinoff to Internal question
I didnt cramp nor bleed after mine. I just got my 1st one on Tues. Doc does try to get up there to see if he can feel the head and check cervix. He also pushed on my stomach (top portion) while feeling around in there.
I guess my doc was gentle. I understand some arent to "stir" things up.

Re: Spinoff to Internal question
Deb/Michele,
Were either of you dilated when you had your internal?
I wonder if that's the difference between bleeding or not bleeding.
But then again, I've had cervix issues all along.
To answer the question. The doctor said - "okay, I'm going to check your cervix" and she just had me lie back - I didn't even put my feet in the stirrups or anything.
But she puts her hand all the way up there!!
And she pushes on your belly when she does it, so it's a little uncomfortable, but not painful.

Ok - I am def. not liking the whole pushing down on your belly - and putting her hand all the way up.
Just another thing for me to be scared of!!!!

"HE" is only going into your vagina....up to your cervix... The Dr. Is going INTO your cervix...basically pushing it open with her fingers to see if its open at all or not.
Thats the laymans answer.

I wasn't' either. I wasn't a fingertip dilated until my internal the day before I gave birth to DD. ETA: She was born at 39w4d's
I was about 60%-70% effaced at my 39 weeks appt though.
Maybe dilation and bleeding have some sort of correlation

Re: Spinoff to Internal question
the ones in the office were not bad - not so much different from when you have your 6 month BCP check up.
But when they want to stir things up - that hurt. I only had that at the hospital - but my friend's OB did it for her in the office, b/c she said she wanted the baby out.
