Spinoff to latest BF'ing post...
I am a little freaked out too about bf'ing but thought I would try by pumping. That will also allow others to feed the baby.
My question is - how do I handle this is at the hospital? I've read they sometimes give you the baby right away to start bf'ing but I am not sure I want to do that...

you can rent a pump at the hospital if you want - if you really do not want to BF they will recommend that you start pumping right away anyway.
then you can continue to rent the pump from the hospital after you leave to make sure this is something you want to continue doing, or you can purchase your own pump.
i have the medela pump in style advances and i love it!
just keep in mind that pumping (IMO) is harder than BFing - it's a lot of work, there are a lot of parts to clean, and i personally feel like a cow being milked every time i use it (i pump at work only).
if you are on the fence about BFing i would recommend that you at least give it a try - it is the hardest thing you'll ever do but i can fianlly say that i find it very rewarding.
ETA: i did not BF my DS right away - i was shaking too hard from the spinal i got when i had my c-section. i didn't BF him until later that day. you definitely don't have to worry about having to pump right after giving birth

Re: Spinoff to latest BF'ing post...
I really wanted to try BFing. I tried for the first 1-2 days and I was just in too much pain and DD wouldn't latch right. I asked for a pump and they brought me one. I used it the whole time I was there and then when discharged, I contacted a LC and rented a hospital-grade pump for 6 months.
