Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
Both DH and I have student loans. DH's are all from grad school and mine are from undergrad and grad. I feel like I'm never going to be done paying them.

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
I can finally see the light at the end of my student loan tunnel.....only $2500 more to go.
I'm approaching 10 years out of college though - it's taken forever to pay of!!

I agree. I hate student loans. I don't even like what i do anymore and want to go back to school, but more student loans I am on gradual payment and the payment is going up. just great.

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
My DH is paying mine now that I am not working (I'm a SAHM). I graduated from graduate school over 11 years ago. I have less than $5000 to pay off, and we're thinking after the holidays to just pay it off in one lump sum. We pay $230 a month.
The reason we didn't pay off before is because the interest rate on them was at an incredible low - like 2%. At that time, it was better to keep my money in my GMAC savings which was earning 5.75%. Now that the interest rate is back up near 5% on the loans, we want to pay off.

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
student loans are awful, as much as I know the pay back is unmeasurable in $$$. It just makes me not sleep at night knowing I have this "mortgage" over my head.

Ummm yeah I took out $45,000 for my doctoral tuition, but my brother had to take out over $250,000 for his law school tuition and living expenses for when he was in law school!

omg - 6%?!?!? I am so glad I consolidated my loans and locked in 2.25%. I will probably be paying back until I retire.

my brothers are in my Dad's name- what a waste of money! at least my sister is doing something with her degree
my parents always thought it would be my dad to go first- so it was really done this way for my Mom- and she didn't make it to see my sister graduate

my sisters were in my dads name bc my mother has no clue about finances whatsoever. So when I started college, even though she didnt take any loans out for me - just getting her to fill out the FAFSA was a PITA!

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
Thankfully DH and I have no undergrad loans however I went to law school and he went to Business school so we pay about $1400/month combined in loans
I won't even tell you how much we have left - its like a mortgage

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
I have loans from undergrad and grad.... DH only has loans from law school. To think his parents would have paid for law school if he went right out of undergrad, but no he wanted to work first.

It took DH and I 10 years to pay off all school loans. We were done right before we bought the house.
Interest rates back then were at 13%! I re-consolidated these loans tons of times to bring down the rates. At the end I had the loans on 0% cards.

Re: Spinoff to monthly bills
Both DH and I have student loans.. he is paying his back now, I am finishing up my masters so I am on deferrment right now, but am not looking forward to what that monthly payment will be... Sometimes I really feel like school was a total waste of time and money.
