spinoff to my dental implant post- tooth extraction
Hi, thanks for those that responded to my prior post about dental implants. I am going to have the tooth extracted next week and was wondering if there is anything I should be buying ahead of time that would be helpful in my recovery?
TIA!

For me, it wasn't bad at all, and I'm a huge baby. You will want soft foods in the house- soup, pudding, jello, yogurt, stuff like that for the first few days. They gave me a script for Vicodin, but I didn't need it. Fill it anyway though. I used just motrin. Make sure you have that in the house. He said I could take up to 4 motrin (which would be the prescription dose) But I only really needed 2 at a time.
I also felt better for some reason with my head elevated, so if you have a neck roll, or something to elevate your head while laying down, that was helpful
That's pretty much it. I had an easy extraction, not much bleeding, hardly any pain and was back at work the next day. Hope yours goes smoothly too!

Fill any Rx they give you ahead of time, so you have it ready when you go home. Pen and paper to record when you took your meds if you forget.
I kept a towel on my pillow the first night.
Stock easy things to eat for the first few days: pasta, apple sauce, jello, pudding, soups, just so you do not need to run out.
I got mine done on Fridays so I can sleep in the next day and rest all weekend. I had bone grafting done at the same time and was glad to not work the next day.

Agree with the above. Don'the drink with a straw, the suckling motion could dislodge the clot. Have a small ice pack or even a bag of frozen peas to put on your face to help with any swelling or discomfort. Wrap in a dish towel first. Sleep with your head elevated.
I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted by the dentist with no problems, the 4th had to be extracted by an oral surgeon. That wasn't fun but not too bad afterward.
