Spinoff to my post....how do I travel on an airplane with a 6 mo old?

I am so clueless about this. DD will be 6 months old when we travel to FL for BIL's wedding. How do we put her in all the car's we will be in? Do I bring the base of the carseat in addition to the actual carseat? Do I just put the carseat in the different cars myself and pray that I do it right? So nervous about this.

For instance, we will be taking a car service from home to Newark airport (we are in NJ so it's only about a 15 min ride) - I have had DD's carseat installed/inspected by the police in the past, so I'm not familiar with how it should be installed in different vehicles. I guess I better learn?

If you are taking the carseat then you will need to learn how to install it. And yes you should bring the base (i am assuming it is the infant car seat).

I traveled alot with DD and we have always brought her infant carrier. It goes on the plane very easily and we were able to belt it into the rental cars with no problem. We have the Graco snugride and it has instructions on how to use it without the base. Now that she's in the convertible carseat, it won't be as easy. Chat Icon I'm not sure how big your DD is and if you can keep her in the infant seat (if you have the infant carrier) that long. My DD was in it until 9 months. It was so much easier when she was in that.

I would probably check her infant carrier if you're not getting her a seat and then just install it in the cars using the seatbelt, no need to use the base.

The base is completely unecessary. It's intended purpose is so us parents can just snap it in and go without having to fiddle with the latch/seatbelt every single time we take them out/put them in. Your instruction manual will give you instructions on how to install it using the regular seatbelt. Just make sure you take the locking clip. Also I would bring a small blanket to roll up in case the seat isn't level.

great. thanks so much ladies! DD will def still be in the infant seat...so happy I don't have to bring the base with us. I will read the instructions on how to secure it without the base.
