Spinoff to my "teach" post - talking related
When do they start to say words? Real words - using them in the right context?
At home many months was your DC when they started to do this - was it a complete word explosion at once -- or did it happen little by little?

I know my niece is 18 months old and she says some words...no sentances at all.
She was a little behind everyone says...
at 13 months she said like bye bye and up and mama. Thats about it.

DD is 15 months old and says about 40 words in the correct context. She started saying words/phrases properly at about 12 1/2 months and it's been a word explosion. Now she learns very quickly. She doesn't say many phrases but does link some words together like, "hi mommy/daddy" or "uh-oh mommy/daddy" if she drops something. She also says, "what's that" and points if she is curious about something.
