Spinoff to new names for babies...
One of the teachers in my school has been teaching for 30+ years in America and has almost all Bilingual classes since that is where her certification is.
One time we were talking about some of the names we get in our school --- it seems like sometimes the parents just make up random names to be different...
And she said that about 15 years ago she had a kid in her class named Usmail -- pronounced OOhs-My-Eel ---
On parent teacher night she asked the parents how they chose the name for their son and they said that they wanted to name him something American since he was born in this country. She replied by saying that Usmail isn't american! American names were names like Bobby, Johnny and William.
They replied by saying YES YES -- it is American -- it is all over those BLUE boxes in the city ---- WHERE YOU DROP your MAIL! What can be more american then that?!?!?!
They named their kid US Mail!!!

Brother-in-law delivered a baby boy in the back of an ambulance and the mother named him Nosmo after the no smoking sign!

My mom is a school nurse and she sees weird names all the time. The best ones I can remember are I-Queen and Unique.

Re: Spinoff to new names for babies...
I had a student named Miss. I'll always remember the exchange between her and the Dean on one of the first days of school:
Dean: What's your name? Miss: Miss Dean: Don't 'Miss' Me. What is your name? Miss: Miss Dean starts to get really mad, and a few kids finally said, "Miss, her name IS Miss!"

OMG, people amaze me with the names they give their children. I've heard some real winners over the years, one of my favorites was Lord God Almighty and Dishareah.

Lord God Almighty must have been related to students that my BIL and I have worked with - Greatgod and Lord God Allah!

I had a student named Zoolyn in my class last year. The sad thing is that her name fits her very well.

I once had a Paradise in my class.
Can we now find her swinging from a pole in a New Jersey strip club? Ouch that's a stripper name if I ever heard one!
