Re: spinoff to "no presents," wishlists

I was never a fan before my DD was about 3-4. Now I love it. I usually make one for her, but only tell people who ask what to get for her. To me, it is better to put items on there that she likes in a range of prices and let somebody choose on their own rather than me telling them "Barbie" or whatever and then she still getting something she already has. And then you aren't really suggesting something in a price category that the person is not interested in, or would like to spend more.

I have since wished more people made them, especially when sending DD to classmates' parties...would make my life easier!

i made an amazon one for DDs first birthday but i didnt put it on the invite, i just spread the info by word of mouth. not too many people bought off of it but it was def helpful for me to keep track of the things i needed for her.
i would have liked if more people purchased from it because i got literally SOOOOO much clothes that i could put this girl in a different dress every day of the summer and never have to do laundry. some things other than clothes would have been better but in the end im grateful for whatever gifts she got. i just felt personally weird about putting it on the invite and i guess i didnt do a good enough job spreading the word.

I created them for Christmas but only told people who were asking me for suggestions. I think they appreciated it. I think this is one of those things that people either love or hate -- you can't please everyone!

Re: spinoff to "no presents," wishlists

My SIL made a wish list at TRU for my niece for Chanukah last year, and I found it really helpful for selecting a gift for her. I might do it for DD one day when she's older, but I would never include it on an invitation. I would basically tell friend or family if they asked for gift suggestions.

(I come from a family where my mother didn't even put my wedding registry info in my bridal shower invite, but rather, waited for people to ask where I was registered.)

Re: spinoff to "no presents," wishlists

I always have a hard time picking out presents for others - especially when I have no idea if they already have a certain toy, what kind of train set they use (wooden vs. die cast) or what size clothes they wear. I wish EVERYONE used a wish list! With that being said, I've never done one for DS because I just never thought of it. I might do it this year and if anyone asks, I'll refer them to it. I won't make it known on the invite though!

The only time I'd include anything about gifts on an invite is when I'm requesting NO presents - which I did for DS's 1st birthday and will do for my big 40th I'm throwing for myself later this year. I hate for people to feel obligated to bring something when I throw a party simply to spend the day with everyone.
