Spinoff to now joining the boy team
Like I said in my earlier post, I was sooooooo sure I was carrying a girl. But today I saw the boy parts . I am happy, just shocked but MOST of all I want a healthy baby. But part of me feels like I wont be a good mommy to a boy. I have always had a closness with my nieces never with my newphews. We do hair dates, and nail dates and tea parties etc. I am so girlie and vision all the mommy and daughter things. I dont know how or what I will do with a boy. I guess I am scared that I wont have that special bond. Is this something that will come naturally?
JUST TO BE CLEAR - I dont want anyone to think I am not grateful for being able to be preggo. I am happy and most of all I want a healthy happy baby.

I know the feeling...
I was so convinced that i was carring a boy. When the sono tech told me that she's a girl - i was literally like - no it's a boy. It took the rest of the day and for me to say to DH over and over again that It's a girl!!! Because i was so convinced it took some getting used to and now I am just so excited. I daydream about her future and what we are going to do together and what kind of personality she will have.
I know you are excited about becoming a mommy, as i am, you will get used to it and bond with your son!!! Congratulations

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
Thats funny, my sister felt the same way when she found out hers was a boy and i kinda felt the same...like, how do I take care of a boy?!!
But now, she is soooo glad she had a boy first and she couldn't even imagine having a girl instead. I guess you just get used to it and everyone I talk to has said that boys are so much easier...but again, I wouldn't know yet!
I was shocked when they told me mine was a boy, I was sooo feeling girl. But now that I've gotten used to it I couldn't be happier!! I keep imagining how cute it will be to watch DH raise his son and teach him all the boy things he needs to know!!!

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
You will find lots of things to do with a boy, it just might take a little more time than thinking of things you would like to do with a girl.
There are a lot of things you could do with children of either sex when they are young, reading, arts & crafts, etc.
I've heard boys argue with their mothers less when they are teens, but not having raised a boy myself, I can't say for sure.

I went through the same exact thing!! I would have bet a truck load of money it was a boy, but nope - it's a girl! It definitely took a few days for it to sink in.

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
Totally normal. I personally wanted a boy more but I didnt care as long as the baby is healthy but DH was scared of having a girl because he didnt know how he would relate to a daughter.
Your relationship with your son will be special and once you hold him in your arms, the thought of a girl instead wont cross your mind.

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
I totally know what you mean. I'm still weeks away from finding out the sex but I really don't know what I'd do with a boy. I'm all about dancing school and barbie dolls and playing dress up... although I'd also like to walk around saying "my son, my son, the wonderful one." I've always been so girly, if I'm having a boy I'll have to reach down deep to find my inner tomboy.

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
dh and i were positive i was carrying a . when the tech told me it was a i think i was initially in denial. everyone was telling me i was carrying like a girl and i honestly really thought i was. like you, i always thought i would be a better mom to a girl. BUT i cant tell u how excited i am for my little boy. its strange, but now its like i cant wait to be a mom to a little boy and i cant imagine it being a girl!! i think u are still in "shock", but dont worry - pretty soon when u see all little boy things and u will be SO excited!!!

I am very girlie, too but I always wanted a boy. I think you are right that it is a matter of what you are used to. As a kid, the only babies I knew were my boy cousins! Boys still appreciate the tenderness of a mom.

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
my gut intuition told me 'boy' before i even missed AF. so i wasn't surprised when we saw his 'parts' two seconds into the 20 week sono!
having said that - strangely enough, i have always pictured myself being a mom to a girl, and i continue to have insecurities about parenting a boy... but i am just hoping that my maternal instinct takes over once he is born, and that once i hold him in my arms i will know what to do!
so i defnitely hear what you're saying...

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
i completely agree with you about the boy/mom insecurities. i have seen my husband interact with his son and he's a great dad - they def have more in common b/c they play video games/sports etc. but when he was younger, my stepson spent more time playing with me, reading books, arts and crafts - things my husb wasn't into at that time. you'll balance each other out. i thought my baby would be a girl and was shocked when i found out it was a boy...took some time to get used to.. but i'm happy that i'll have an older brother in the house for the next sibling - girl or boy.
everything will work itself out...i keep hearing that the boys are going to loves us rotten - mamma's boys...i'm excited about that!!!

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
I knwo this feeling too.
In a way..
I was SOOOOO sur eI was having a girl and I wanted a girl...and while I have many nephews, love boys. I felt girl and hoped for it.
I was a tad dissapointed when I foudn out I was having a boy.
NOW that hes here..I cant even imagien it not being "him" ..and cant imagine that I would ever have wanted a girl. Its the weirdest thing...and I thinkt he same will happen to you once he is here.
I m actually THRILLED I had a boy now.

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
I felt the same way. We didn't find out what we were having. When he was born I was like what am I going to do with a boy! I never had a brother. I was used to dancing school and Barbie dolls.
I can tell you having a boy is the greatest thing! First of all..you get lots of exercise! He is warm and affectionate and love his mommy! I love playing ball with him! I thing the only negative is that the clothes selection is not as good,
He tells me I am pretty and that he loves me! I adore my little man!
If God blesses me with another son in the future I would be very lucky! I would love if God would give me a girl too. I love shopping for girl stuff!

Potty training is actually easy for me now! He does it standing up just like daddy! It is so fast and I don't have to worry as much going out with the nasty toilet seat!

Re: Spinoff to now joining the boy team
I am as girly girl as you can get. I'm always buying my niece play make up and such. When I was pg I knew I was having a boy so when it was confirmed it wasnt a surprise.
I still love girly things, and I'll linger in that section of the toy store and say someday...... But then I head over to the boys and instinctivly know what to get. It is fun having a boy, granted you cant do his nails, but you'll know what to do when the time comes

Debbie-
I am sure you will be just as great of a mom to a baby boy as you would be to a baby girl
Dont Worry
