Spinoff to nursery furniture
I'm really starting to stress out about nursery furniture. We thought we could put it on a registry, but most everything we want is considered a special order and/or just normally takes 10-12 weeks to ship so it's turning out not to be practical at all for a registry. No one has said anything yet and we can't afford much ourselves, but it's looking like we're going to have to buy it ourselves if we want it in time.
For all those who said that their parents or in laws are paying for furniture I'm curious, how did the subject come up?

Re: Spinoff to nursery furniture
Where are you registered? My cousins did put their special order furniture on their registry at buy buy baby.
My mom brought up the subject that it's traditional in her family for the parents/godparents to buy pieces. My grandmother and godparents bought all of my baby furniture when I was a baby.
My mom wanted to buy the crib, and my DH said something to his mom about the deal and she said she would buy another piece.
My mom originally was going to buy whatever anyone else didn't, but my dad lost his job in November and unfortunately hasn't found something yet, so the rest is on us.

Re: Spinoff to nursery furniture
Well my Inlaws decided to give me $500 in gift cards to BRU. I wasn't planning on getting furniture there but since I had that much money I decided to get it there. My mother mentioned it to me that she would pay the rest. I didn't have to bring up the subject.

Re: Spinoff to nursery furniture
my mother said "oh you want a glider? we'll get that for you!"
DH's mother has asked what we need as well, we'll find out how much she wants to contribute and probably try to get $$ from her towards purchasing an item (we can find the better deals).
i never asked and would never ask. i view it as our responsibility and if anyone wants to contribute we are grateful!
