Spinoff to NYC posts - funny story
My cousin, who is from Bayshore and now lives in Middle Island took a trip to the city with her two young chindren, 9 and 5 years old.
The 9 year old kept complaining about it being so crowded and he HATED it, and can he go home, this is the stupidest place in the world, it's too bright (they went to TS), etc.
Then he saw a pay phone. He said "what the heck is that?" and my cousin told him and he goes "that's the stupidest thing I ever saw in my life. Who would use a phone on the street?" My cousin was like, what do you think we did before we had cell phones, and he said "I didn't know we never had cell phones."
I thought that was so funny and it's such a difference from how I grew up, seeing these things every single day. This kid never even saw a pay phone

Re: Spinoff to NYC posts - funny story
I remember using them to call my mom to come pick me up at school. I would call collect and when the electronic operator said "Name Please" I would say "Mom pick me up" and hang up

That's too cute! See--visiting NYC can be a learning experience without going to museums.
I actually still use pay phones! I always seem to forget to charge my phone on the same days I have train issues!

Re: Spinoff to NYC posts - funny story
That's hysterical! Truth be told, I dont' even know how to use one anymore. A few months ago I was strandad at Penn and FH has a tendancy to worry very easily and of course my cell was dead, so I went over to a pay phone, put in my 25 cents, but it didnt' work, I thought it was the phone I was using but I coudn't figure out how to get it to work on any of the phones!

My friends daughter was amazed that we didn't have laptops growing up.
What a different world we live in now.
