Spinoff to Opinons on Chat Forums
Do you find, particularly on LIF, that the majority of people that ask for opinions, or advice, don't really want honest opinons, but would rather you just say what they want to hear?

I think this is pretty much true on and offline. Most people just want you to agree with them, they don't want to hear they made a mistake or whatever. JMO.

i agree. personally, if i ask for an opinion, i expect an honest one.
i think some people just want validation that they have or are making the right decision and aren't really interesting in hearing another viewpoint. makes no sense to me but it happens ALL the time.

I agree. Also, I think that people just want to get their feeling reapproved. They are not too sure themselves, so they look for affirmation from others.

I agree. I think those people shouldn't ask for opinions.
but those are the ones that ALWAYS do and will continue to do. i attribute it to low-self esteem and the need for attention.

YES!! I find that they ask for an opinion but they really just want a validation of their secret choice!

I completely think most people want their feelings validated instead of hearing the truth. I tend not to post about those issues, but FM the people I know will be honest.

i still don't get it. if you ask for an opinion than EXPECT to receive ones that may differ from your own. there has been numerous occassions where a poster has asked for an opinion and i gave an honest one. i don't even read the other repsonses and follow the pack like some do, i post based on my OWN thoughts. if you don't like it or can't handle it, then don't post asking for advice.
