spinoff to plastic bags
When I have several items that need ot go out to the recycling bin (read: several beer bottles), I put them in a plastic grocery bag. Are these bags not being recycled? I will feel like such a tool.

I'm in Town of Hempstead and they do not recycle those bags. We get a mailer every January that tells us what we can and can't recycle. Sadly, the list of things they don't recycle is a lot longer that what they do recycle.

Re: spinoff to plastic bags
You should be putting them in the blue or clear plastic bags - the ones "approved" and designated for recycling. Otherwise, we use a specific garbage can for our recycled stuff and don't use a bag at all.

Hmmm- I am using grocery bags- is there something I can look for on the bag that will tell me if it's recyclable? I guess I just assumed since Stop & Shop has a "bag recycle" bin, that they were generally recyclables.

I use them again, and in that sense I feel like I am recycling them, however our supermarkets have bins for them in the front, so you can dump them there for recycling when you feel like it.

off topic a bit, but where do the Stop & Shop stores usually keep the bin for the plastic bags? I've never seen one.

Stop & Shop recycles the bags, where they allow other shoppers to use the bags over again...
I would recm'd just throwing cans/glass/aluminium, etc. directly into your bin...or like you said - buying the blue/clear "recycle bags" from the grocery store...and you'll see it where it shows the blue.
