Spinoff to posts being moved
What's the deal with that anyway? I understand when it is inappropriate such as infertility/pregnancy or blatantly about relationships or home or fashion, but the other stuff, I don't know, it just seems that sometimes you are looking for an answer and the other boards don't get enough action. Is that the goal? To get more action on the other boards? And why is an "XPost" acceptable? I am not starting anything, I am legitimately curious. It just seems like NFR is the anything goes board

Re: Spinoff to posts being moved
IMHO, there are different boards for a reason. Most were ASKED for so they should be used!. I don't know why xposts are acceptable, I usually don't answer the xpost.

because everyone begs for different forums then no one posts in them....if people used the correct boards....then there will be traffic there.

YES!
I don't understand why people get so offended/hurt or whatever wen their posts are moved

Re: Spinoff to posts being moved
But in 99% of the instances, you should not even Xpost. If everyone xposted everything, then every single board would be the same, then why bother with separate boards. You're back to the same thing.
My feeling is, if someone is interested in the topic enough to click on the xpost, they will click on the other board to begin with. If they are too lazy to visit the other board, then I guess they will also be too lazy to respond, so what's the point.

the point is, that sometimes the other boards go unchecked, (unfortunately) so by doing a xpost, you bring more attention to them...and hopefully they'll start to get more "regular" traffic.

Re: Spinoff to posts being moved
I don't get the x-posting either. Every other forum I belong to deletes duplicate posts and moves posts that are in the wrong forum to the correct one.
I imagine people that have information or an interest in the other forum topics will visit them without the cross post.
For me, it comes down to how many replies do people need?

I agree that it would be nice if that was the case; but in my opinion I don't think it happens, considering many people will respond to the xposted post and not the post on the original board.

I agree with this. It's hard because sometimes you need an answer quickly and if you post on a low-traffic board, the post will fester, no one will see it. It suckss but it happens.
Xposts don't bother me and neither do posts being moved... we've all had this conversation a million times, so I dont know why anyone would be suprised about a post being moved, JMO.

That, or speed. I see the excuse of 'I need an answer quick.' The thought that goes thru my head is that 75% of the time is that your answer could be found by using a search engine, so how quickly do you REALLY need the answer....

Re: Spinoff to posts being moved
If you really stop to think about it, almost every post could "belong" to multiple boards:
Relationship board: It's Our Anniversary Happy Anniversary to... 5 years ago today... My DH is the best Guess what my DH did today etc.
Recipe board: What's for dinner, lunch, etc Cooking magazines
Career: Guess what my assistant did today I quit my job Can I say this to my boss etc.
Celebrity: What did Opie and Anthony say Any Anna Nicole/ Britney thread (or celeb of the day)
I mean...if you really wanted to pull apart and break down every post, they each have something that relates to other boards. But who cares? Read what you want, skip the ones that don't hold any interest to you. It's as easy as that.

very true!!
but i think the majority of the "I need an answer quick" posts, are ones looking for personal experiences and/or opinions on a certain topic...kwim?

To prove the point of your argument, sure you could. Some examples you list above I agree with, some I don't.
Since you proved that every post really belongs on another board, I think NFR should be deleted. RON!!!

Yup, I've seen this happen. I post (used to anyway) on, of all things, a board for Boxer lovers (the dog). One guy got banned for doing an x-post. Pretty harsh for a friggin' board for dog lovers!
And on one of my first posts I got reamed because I didn't do a search first on a topic that apparently had been discussed "millions" of times

Re: Spinoff to posts being moved
Do you realize how many times people gripe about relationships with family members on this board? If people kept family posts on the family boards or the relationships board, this one would get a lot less traffic. Then again "Relationships", if I recall was created so we could post more intimate subjects.
Truthfully, I try to post where appropriate, but sometimes my posts could in theory appear in more than one place.
