spinoff to sunny's going out post
for those of you who went out pretty early....
WHERE did you go?
I KNOW I can't stay home for long....and was hoping to at least go out to dinner once while my dad and stepmom are visiting for the 4 or 5 days they are here.
Is that not good?

Re: spinoff to sunny's going out post
We went to the supermarket and I went out for walks with him in the stroller around the neighborhood.

We went for walks at first also, although that's hard now because it's so cold out lately. Our first outings to real stores and stuff were quick places like AC Moore and Target -- I didn't take her to the grocery store until she was like 1 month old -- but we did quick stops at other stores at around 2 weeks.

Re: spinoff to sunny's going out post
I guess we weren't too overly cautious about going out, but then again, we didn't go to too many places. We closed on our house when Katherine was 2 weeks old, so after that she lived in Home Depot! We also went to Babies R Us and to the park, to my parents' and inlaws' homes.
The restaurant thing though...hmmm...we didn't do that until at least 1 month. I don't think it was because we were afraid of sickness, but really because we were afraid of her screaming uncontrollably in public...she definitely has a set of lungs!!
You would probably have to take more caution than we did because your daughter will be a winter baby. Katherine was born in Sept. while it was still pretty hot, so it wasn't cold and flu season yet.
ETA: At three months, Katherine has never been sick!

Re: spinoff to sunny's going out post
We took Alex to the restaurant with us at about 10 days... we only went when it wasn't too crowded... she did fine! After about 3 weeks I made it a point to go out with her at least once everyday so she would get the stimulation and get used to going out. I took her on LOTS of strolls, to the mall, target, to lunch, etc... it worked out really well because now, whenever we take her out with us, she's a dream. In fact, if she's fussy at all, taking her out of the house instantly cures it... for weeks people didn't believe us when we told them she was fussy because everytime we took her out of the house she was a dream!!

We went to places like Babies R Us & the supermarket early on. The big thing is just make sure the baby is not being passed around to tons of relatives.
Dinner should be fine.

When Nate was a week old my mom and I went to lunch after his Dr's appt. He was asleep the whole time and was covered up.
