Spinoff to Taboo Foods: Cheese

there are several lists i found online in terms of cheeses

cream cheese is fine, since it is made with pasturized milk
it is not so much "soft vs. hard" as it is "pasturized vs. unpasturized" milk

hope this clears things up a bit

Cheeses which are SAFE to eat in pregnancy

Hard cheeses:
austrian smoked, Babybel, caerphilly, cheddar, cheshire, derby, double gloucester, edam, emmental, english goat's cheddar, feta (if bought in the UK), gouda, gruyere, halloumi, havarti, jarlsberg, lancashire, manchego, orkney, paneer, parmesan, pecorino (hard), provolone, red leicester.

Soft and processed cheeses:
Boursin, cottage cheese, cheese spread, cream cheese, mascarpone, mozzarella, Philadelphia, Quark, ricotta.

Yoghurts, fromage frais, soured cream and creme fraiche -- any variety, including natural, flavoured and biologically active -- are all safe to eat.

Cheeses to AVOID in pregnancy

Mould-ripened soft cheeses:
brie, blue brie, cambozola, camembert, chaumes, pont L'eveque, prince jean, tallegio. vacherin-fribourgeois, weichkaese.

Blue-veined cheeses:
bavarian blue, bergader, bleu d'Auvergne, blue shropshire, cabrales, Danish blue, dolcelatte, doppelrhamstuge, eldel pilz, gorgonzola, romano, roncal, roquefort, stilton, tommes, wensleydale (blue).

Soft unpasteurised goat and sheep's cheeses:
chabichou, pyramide, torta del cesar.

In my world, there is NO taboo on cheese. It would be like giving up air and water.

I love cheese too. When I met with my doctor today, she was talking about how I should be drinking up to 5 glasses of milk a day. I am NOT a fan of milk. I was like "Can't I just eat cheese instead?". She laughed and said no.........it's not the same thing at all.

Are you kidding? That was my very first communion veil. My sister came up with that get-up. My bachelorette party was at DIP, the fondue restaurant. We dipped in cheese all night long and she and my MOH gave out little rounds of mini Baby-bels. Fun times.

Well thats where my confusion is because I have read the labels, and they say "partially pasturized". Is that okay? And if so then they ALL say that so when is feta bad?
Because I miss my feta! Feta makes everything betta.Chat Icon

as long as it's made with pasteurized milk and it's sold in a sealed container, go for it! (I don't trust the bulk fetas... you don't know how long they've been in there...)

At fairway (in plainview) you can get a super feta.... #1 brand sold in greece... genuine sheeps milk... pasteurized and individually vacuum sealed containers! ( you can find it in the refrigerated shelves opposite their cheese counter). Just eat it within 3-4 days after opening the container...

Swear it tastes exactly like the feta in salads in greece.... probably the same brand! It's not salty and dry like american fetas
