Spinoff to the Spinoff of Small office- what do we hate about working in education?

That my students have to attend school in a building that looks like a prison.
That my students cannot attend a BETTER program in the district next door because the Superintendent SAID so. Even though my poor students have no other way to make up classes.
That I am currently working in an office that doesn't even have heat since apparently we don't need heat in S.California even when today its about 45 degrees out
That we are supposed to over-joyed by a 3.5% raise since we haven't seen a raise in five years.

Ok, rant over.

I work in for-profit ed, so my experience is a little different, but on the whole my answer would have to be how demanding parents are

I hate the the NYC system is set up so that the students have all of the power in the building instead of the teachers and/ or administration.
I hate that the kids say, "I don't care ...you can't do anything about it anyway" when we try to discipline them or get them to follow directions....and that they are RIGHT!
There is nothing I/We can do.

We can't send them out of the classroom. We can't have them suspended. Their parents refuse to come up to the school.

I guess what I really hate is feeling helpless at times.

I hate that:

Some my students have to travel over an hour to get to school.

My classroom is 95 degrees in the summer and 45 in the winter.

Regents grades are the most important grades

my students think a 65 is WONDERFUL!

Parents never call you back and when they do it is never their child's fault.

Someone can walk into my classroom in the middle of a lesson, leave before it is over and critique me.

I can call security to remove a student and when the SSAs come in they joke around with the kid and call them by name.

People think I get paid too much for my job.

....I could write a lot more!! Can you tell where I teach???

That TA's are not trained enough to work with the students they are 1 to 1s for. It baffles me that the kids who need the MOST help get the least trained people....

Adding on to my own thread....

I love when I am talking about something that upsets me about programs we offer and how they don't help students and someone invaribly says,

well, you get the summer's off

Yes, dumb butt I do- those 7 weeks (I work in August for registration) do not make up for the crap my students have to take to get their education. They are two different things entirely.
