spinoff to themed party favors
what do you do when you have a large variety of ages at the party?
you're not really going to give an older child and a one year old the same thing, right?
also, what age is "old enough" to not get a favor?

I think it's OK to give different things for different ages.

See, this is why I am considering not doing favors...I have babies and 3 kids between 7-11.

But honestly, when does it get out of control? Between working full time and just planning a party, I don't know if I have time to put together favors that I don't know if the kids will like and will most likely end up in the garbage, you know?

Re: spinoff to themed party favors
Well I had 16 kids last year at DS's 1st birthday party and am expecting the same this year for his 2nd birthday party. I am basically doing the same thing for every kid, except for 3 of them that are under the age of 2.
I will have 3 older kids ages 12,13, and 14. I am not giving out favors for them.

Totally understand. That's one reason I start putting things together for a party like 4 months in advance, so I don't have to stress myself out running around for stuff 2 weeks before while also working full time and with all the other everyday things. But I would maybe do like Ang said and break it up into 2 categories. That way your not shopping for for 4 or 5 different age types.

You could never look bad - working in Manhattan actually makes this easier (so does Val ) because I have nothing to do on my lunch but walk around and hit the stores.
Plus you are better than me for actually considering if the kids will like the stuff...I didn't

Re: spinoff to themed party favors
Well, I was doing beach pails for the younger kids with some stuff inside. I was going to do that for the 7-9 year olds, but then there is an 11 year old (who is too old for a beach pail) so I think I'm just giving the older kids something edible, same with adults.... Candy bars and choco covered pretzels. But then, I have one older child coming who is diabetic, so I really don't know!
