Spinoff to toddler beds...

Bella, my little spitfire, will be 18 months next Wednesday. When should I be mentally preparing myself to "graduate" her into a larger bed?

I don't want to say it, but thus far things have been...you know...not necessary...
NO JINXING please.

My son, who is nearly 3, would more than likely still be in a crib is #2 hadn't come along. He was not a climber and loved it. I guess things could have changed, but we'll never know, he went into his toddler bed and 22 months. IMO, I would keep them in the crib until a situation warrants otherwise Chat Icon Or they get too old Chat Icon

I don't plan on taking Jake out of the crib until it's necessary (i.e. he starts trying to climb out).

I'm terrified of the possible ramifications of a toddler bed: getting up in the middle of the night to come to mommy & daddy's bed, getting up to play with his toys, etc.

I plan on moving my son in a few months and he will be a little over 2 but only because #2 is on the way and I want him have time to forget about his crib being his before the new baby comes and gets in. He loves his crib and is sleeping well now and I don't want to jinx this but this is what works best for us. I think you convert when you feel the need to - if they aren't jumping out or too big or need the crib for someone else - why convert them?

Jake is 28 months old and still in his crib. He fell/leaped out once and scared himself that he never did it again (along with mommy yelling at him never to do that again). I will keep him the crib for as long as I can. I have the conversion kit for his crib for when the time comes.

Same here. We have no issues so far, I'm hoping it stays that way.

When we move into our new home I'm going to put Julia in a full bed, she will have to get all new furniture because the next baby will get her crib and other stuff.

She will be 2 when shes in her bigger bed.

Re: Spinoff to toddler beds...

I just read an article on this and they said don't rush it. Children usually switch anytime between 18 months and 3 years old, and the closer to three years old the better. It said not to switch them to a bed until the child seems ready, and if you must switch because you need the crib for another child to switch a couple weeks before or after the new baby will need the crib.

Re: Spinoff to toddler beds...

My DS climbed out of the crib at 15 months and my DH bought a toddler bed that night. It is great at night he goes right in but he doesnt have a regular nap schedule since he would rather be out playing with all the toys in his room. It is so hard sometimes without the nap, so I say keep them in there as long as possible!

Re: Spinoff to toddler beds...

Ava is 2 1/2. We made a big production buying her a Princess Toddler Bed. She "helped" Daddy take down the crib- we even took pix...She played in the new bed all day. When it was time for bed- she went nuts!!!!! She was having a breakdown and would not even sit in it.....

Soo,,,,,,since I treasure my sleep and since she usually sleeps 12 hours straight- a night- without a peep.... Poor Daddy had to take down the toddler bed and put back up the crib!!!!

We will wait till she is almost 3...She is not big on change...
