Spinoff to TV/Baby Einstein
I have noticed something with Cailen that bothered me when he watches TV...
If he is in his bouncy with a toy, he looks at it, shakes it, mouths it... etc - you know, typical play behavior
But when I turn him to face the TV, he all of a sudden becomes very passive. He will gaze at the TV, the toy will just sit there, and there is no interaction with anything
I think thats what the study was showing - that straight viewing can turn kids off to everything around them
after I saw that, I vowed that besides the 10 mins here and there when I'm showering or doing dishes, I want to avoid TV viewing until he has some social and language skills under his belt....

Asher was the same way -- almost like the TV put him in a trance. I also found that I had to just turn it off. Now that he's crawling all around and being really active I can sometimes get away with watching it while we're playing (he's too busy to notice), but sometimes he turns and notices and gets totally sucked in, so off it goes.
