spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

I would like to do that for my birthday in September:

When is the best time to go (season wise)?

Where are the good wineries and do they charge $$ to taste?

What are the hours?

Is there accomodations nearby?

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

I believe the best time is to go the end of August to the middle of October.
I am not sure of other details, but when DH comes in from mowing the lawn I will ask him.
He is a wine salesman he will know.

IMO the best time to go is Sept or Oct.

Most don't cost that much but the best ones imo are the ones on the north fork...
Pindar, Osprey Dominion, pelligrini, Bedell, Pomanauc (sp?)
they range from 1-5 dollars..but to taste their reserve it is more...

hours i am not sure but most go anywhere from 1-7 but you can check out liwines.com for specific hours of each....

accomodations....never stayed myself but there are motels there..

I think most seem to do the tours/tastings/live music through October. Many have it every weekend from like 12-5. Alot of the live music is jazz/folk maybe tropics. Alot of people bring their own picnic, purchase wine and hang out...Chat Icon Chat Icon some have harvest fest or October fests. My friend is going to the one at Laurel lake vineyards-they have a bunch of stuff going on that day but I think it gets crowded. there's also a fee for that.
So many vineyards along the way on the north fork- it's crazy!

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

When I called the B&Bs last week, so many said their favorite time is October. They said a great time to visit is mid Sept through Oct.

I checked out a bunch of places, mostly inns and B&Bs.

There are so many vineyards on the Northfork, it is so much fun! I think it is a great idea for your bday, that is what I am doing.

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

We got engaged by the vineyards actually. That was the only time I went though. We went on Sept 28th to the Martha Clara vineyard. They had a "Harvest Festival" that day. It was a lot of fun, and the weather was still warm (it was outside).

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

ok - spoke to DH - sorry it took me so long - I got sidetracked.

He said the best time to go is the end of Sept through most of October.

He said that most of the wineries have changed and that they are all pretty much good to go to.

Hours - he thinks that they open around 10-11 and are open until about 7.

About accomadations - he is not sure - but if you are looking to go during the times mentioned above - to look now - it will be close to being booked.

He also said that Wolfer on the South Shore is really nice.

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

I recommend you go in September or early in October. Come the middle or end of October, we are flooded out here by pumpkin pickers. I love to go to Pindar Vineyards.

Re: spinoff to vineyards- have some questions

Book now! We needed 2 rooms and most places were booked. Some had a few rooms for Oct, but we had a hardtime. Also know that Columbus Day wknd is a 3 night minimum.
