Spinoff to Waterspout's Post-Issues or normal toddler behavior
My DH actually thinks one of my boys is OCD. Ronan has to have all doors closed. Likes to keep on his shoes(and they have to be the same pair) Lots more stuff like that...I tend to think this is normal toddler behavior..wdyt?

Sounds like normal exerting-their-power toddler behavior to me...though I have no first-hand experience with kids with diagnosed behavioral issues.

Thats what I think too-he's a control freak..For instance-when we take a walk he says "this way" so he directs us which way to go. I tried to get him to go with DH on the walk so I could make dinner but he wouldn't go without me.

My DD does this also. Lines her shoes up. Puts all of the Melissa & doug crayons in the box with the name facing up in the same direction, Stacking blocks, has to have them all stacked up facing the same direction. Too many to list.
While in one resepct i think it is total normal toddler behavior, SOmetimes i swear my DD has OCD also.
I tend to think let it run its course, but if you think it's become alot, call up about having an EI evaluation. I just called up about DD's speech because while she's just meeting the expectations, she's having some difficulties. I was told that its better to have the eval done and it be nothing than to wait and find out later on. As the key is the earlier the better for most issues.

It sounds like normal toddler behavior to me too. I think they get stuck on something & stick with it.
Get him to turn off lights next.

DS is like this too - and had done all the other things that you described about Ronan. He just likes to have some things within his control, so if it's not a big deal I let him do it, if it is a big deal, I get on his level and talk to him about it/explain why he has to do XYZ (there is usually an incentive for him in there too LOL) and that usually works.

Definitely...good point. I don't live in NY though so I'd have to look into it. The other thing is it tkes him a LONG time to get adjusted to new people-like weeks of seeing them every day. I don't see how a therapist would be able to get him to be evaluated

Re: Spinoff to Waterspout's Post-Issues or normal toddler behavior
I think it could definitely be normal toddler behavior. All of them like order and routine to some degree.
We see quirks with our son, and I think what alarms me is not any one quirk by itself, it is the whole collection of them along with some developmental delays and possible sensory issues. Also the degree of a child's reaction--many 3 year olds do not like a change in their routine, but my son gets hysterical, in complete meltdown, if we say take a new route to daycare or if my husband has to pick him up on a night when I usually pick him up. I tend to think the reactions he has are severe compared to other children his age.
I hope this helps.

Definitely. Thank you I wouldn't say he gets like that. He is OK with a change in his routine(driving, saying we're going somewhere but not going etc.) His issues are definitely more control based I think.
I hope you son continues to improve. That must be hard
