Spinoff to weight gain question - how do you calculate weight gain?
I know my pre-pregnancy weight, but since you don't normally see the Dr. until around 8 weeks, do they count your weight gain from that point? How do they know what you weighed before (if you gained a few pounds since the BFP but before the 8 week appointment)?
I've gained about 6 lbs since the BFP (I'm 10w5d), but nothing since my 8 week appt., so according to the doctor have a I not gained any weight?
Sorry for the dumb question....

It goes basically off your prepregnancy weight. 1st trimester should be no weight gain due to the peanut being S small. But everyone is different but that is what I was told.
In my 1st trimester I gained 2/3 pds.

Re: Spinoff to weight gain question - how do you calculate weight gain?
I had gained 9 Lbs at half way through.
Most of the gain will be toward the middle/end of pregnancy. See what I found on this on the web.
**************
Weigh to Grow
You're pregnant, right? So you get to eat as many french fries as you want, right? Wrong! You need to be careful about how much weight you gain during your pregnancy. Gaining too much or too little can be harmful to you and your baby. How many pounds you need to add depends on how much you weigh when you become pregnant.
Gaining the right amount of weight helps protect the health of your baby. Women who gain too little are at increased risk of having a small baby (less than 5 1/2 pounds). Women who gain too much are at increased risk of having an early baby or a large baby. They may also have health problems themselves such as diabetes, high blood pressure and varicose veins.
If you began pregnancy at a normal weight, you should gain 25–35 pounds over the nine months. Adding about 300 extra calories a day to your diet will help you reach this goal. (One extra healthy snack, such as four fig bars and a glass of skim milk, will provide these calories.) Most women gain four to six pounds in the first trimester, and then average a pound a week in the second and third trimesters.
If you began pregnancy underweight, you should probably gain a little more. That's because underweight women are more likely to have small babies. A 28- to 40-pound gain is usually recommended, so you should try to gain slightly over a pound a week in the second and third trimesters.
If you began pregnancy overweight, you should gain only 15–25 pounds. This means you should put on one pound every two weeks in the second and third trimesters. While you don't want to gain too much weight, you should never try to lose weight during pregnancy because that could harm your baby.
Where does it all go? Approximate breakdown of a weight gain of 29 pounds Blood 3 pounds Breasts 2 pounds Womb 2 pounds Baby 7.5 pounds Placenta 1.5 pounds Amniotic fluid 2 pounds Fat, protein & other nutrients 7 pounds Retained water 4 pounds If you're expecting twins, you should probably gain a total of 35–45 pounds. That translates into about 1 1/2 pounds a week in the last two trimesters.
To find out if you were underweight or overweight before pregnancy, learn your Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight.
Putting on weight slowly and steadily is best. But don't worry if you gain less than four pounds in the first trimester, and make up for it later, or vice versa. Also, many women have one or two "growth spurts" during which they gain several pounds in a short time period, then level off. Again, this is not worrisome unless it becomes a pattern. The important thing is to keep an eye on your overall gain. You can use the weight-gain tracking chart to follow your progress.

Re: Spinoff to weight gain question - how do you calculate weight gain?
your dr. will go off of your first appt.
you can make your own assumptions. remember, your scale and his may differ.
i weigh myself just before I see the dr [i live and work really close so i can pull this off] to see how close our scales are...they are actually pretty similar...usually only off a half pound. this was helpful for me since i changed drs. and my first dr. mis-weighed me at my first appt. by being on her cell phone and not noticing all the things i was holding. she had me wieghing 5 pounds more than i did....based on that, i've only gained 8 pounds in my 25 weeks instead of 13. Big difference, especially if you know me and how tiny I am.
hint: i also only weigh myself once a week, at the same time wearing the same outfit [i call it my friday outfit...since i'm due on a friday, i chose this day] immediately after getting dressed before i can eat or drink anything with my shoes on. [i figure my wet hair makes up for any food or drink in my body at the dr. on appt. days and they weigh me in shoes.]

Re: Spinoff to weight gain question - how do you calculate weight gain?
My dr goes by 1st appt weight. I know with my first pregnancy - I gained like 4lbs before the appt too but they didn't care for some reason and went by 1st appt weight...
This time because my nurse weighed me and took off 3 lbs for clothes for my starting weight. Since, no other nurse did that - so it looked like I gained 3 pounds more than I have. When I mentioned it to my doctor - I think she thought I was nuts for saying the nurse did that - lol....
