spinoff to "What to get DH/SO for Christmas"

If you make a "pact" not to buy each other anything or to stick to a budget, do either of you ACTUALLY do it?

I want to set a limit this year or just do a truce of no gifts, but I don't think DH would actually stick to it, and then I will feel dumb...

???

well, we don't have a $$ limit, but we are limited to 'stocking stuffers' since we just bought furniture.... and I don't mean diamond studs and watches as stocking stuffers.... I mean little stuff

We usually set a budget every year, but I'm the one that always go over that.

we didn't exchange last year- for real

we got each other stuff this year- but it was more like- you need shoes for work - so I will pay for them

I wanted a new bag- so he paid for that

we never really do surprise gifts- it's normally something we wanted or needed

we set a limit last year, but we both went over. This year, we'll try it again.

this year is our first with a limit. i handle the finances and am handing him his limit in cash and me my limit in cash... i plan on sticking to the budget, and i better not see extra charges on the credit cards of him going over either i figure if we do it in cash, it'll be easier to stick to.
