Spinoff to your first car...

Sounds like a lot of us had small cars...compaired to the SUVs many of us drive now!

Plus gas was SO cheap!

How much was gas when you had your first car per gallon?
How much did it take to "fill 'er up!?!"
And what kind of car was it?

Gas was about .97/gal back then
Took about $12.00 to fill
86 Mustang...

Compaired to....

3.21/gal
Somewhere around $40-45 to fill, which I barely do anymore

All I can say is you have a good memory. I have NO idea but I do know it didn't take $58 to fill my Dodge Shadow.

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

I don't remember what gas cost but I remember I could get a full tank for under $10 Chat Icon (Honda CRX).

I have a Honda Civic EX and it is costing me $29 to fill up - I get about 270-285 miles on that tank.

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

I had an SUV then and Now

so in 1994- I filled up the tank at $1 a gallon- about $15 to $16

in 2006- I need at least the middle grade- and from 1/4 of a tank left- my SUV takes $60- $65

for empty it's over $75- so I never let it get that low

but 4 years ago- I had a Ford Explorer- and that took $35 to fill up on empty

Yes -- I remember times when I would put $2-3 in every few days and now I put $20 in every few days!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I think that's the only reason why I remember how much gas was back then---since I was able to get a lot for a couple of bucks!

I remember going to the no-frills gas stations in Albany when I was in college so it would be 87 cents a gallon instead of 92-95 cents at the Mobil!!!

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

I started driving at the beginning of the climb... I believe I paid 1.29/gallon.

Lowest I paid was $.98/gallo spring 2002. But that was in Harrisonburg, VA. Which is at least 15-20 cents cheaper than LI

Oh, my mazda took about $13 to fill.

I remember driving on fumes coming home from classes one day. I scrounged on the floor of the car for CHANGE and rustled up maybe a dollar something and was able to get enough gas to get home!!! Ahhhh, those were the days!

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

It was $0.98. I remember I could do a whole night on the turnpike with the ladies and STILL have fuel left over. Ahhh the good old days where a night of fun cost less than $20.00Chat Icon

I remember paying less than $1 per gallon and five bucks would give me a half a tank of gas. Now five bucks will get you nowhere!

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

Gas was $1.09 & it ran for 10 days on $10 worth of gas (almost a full tank). I love that car.

2nd car was a race car....got like 5 MPG. Most of the cars after that were either race cars or trucks.

Re: Spinoff to your first car...

I've always had fuel efficient cars...

VW and Toyota... never an SUV, can't see why I would need one.

When I got my first car 1990, it was about $1., then the first gulf War happened and it was up to $1.30 and I was Chat Icon because I was a pretty poor college student. It cost about $10-12 to fill up.

Now, Toyota Camry about $45 but I get almost 400 miles on a tank.

My first car was in 1995 after I graduated from grad school!

1995 Toyota Corolla. I guess gas was around $1/gal. I could fill up the tank for $20 and it would last me more than 2 weeks (I used to take the train for work so I didn't drive too many miles).
