My epi was good for contraction pain, but it was shut off and wore off completely for delivery, and man it freakin HURT LIKE HELL! Next time around I want a Dr that leaves it on the entire time..

This was EXACTLY my experience!!!!
Getting the epi didnt hurt AT ALL! It was such a relaxing feeling..I just wanted peace. It was wonderful when it was working and ON! When I started to push, the nurse came in and said we are shutting it off now..I almost died!!! I had never heard of that..apparently its the way my doctor does it. I pushed for 3 hours in excruciating pain (I cant lie) and in the end, wound up needing an emergency c section anyway. Then they came in and gave me more so I could feel numb again. Another thing that bothered me that I dont see many people talk about is the fact that it kept wearing off. I would rest comfortably for about an hour and then I would need to be "topped off" again. It was weird. It was like one minute I felt nothing and the next, all the pain of my back labor was back.
Overall though..its awesome! Next time though, I am going with a doctor who leaves that sucker on if I have to push (although I will probably have another section.)

I actually just asked my doctor about this the other day and she said that she does not turn it off (THANK GOD) that was one of my fears!

I loved the epi. My DH nicknamed the anesthesiologist "Dr. Feelgood" bc I went from white knuckling the contractions to chatting on the phone to let everyone know I was in labor.

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth
The edipural relieved alot of my pain.
I felt the urge to push and so i did when i got it, i also felt the pressure of the contraction and I felt a contraction coming on - but i didn't feel the baby coming out or the doctor sewing me up! It was quite amazing.

I wouldnt know...it was way too fast how it happened and too late for me to get one.
I wonder if it would of made it easier but I cant complaing..my labor wasnt too long and she came in 10 min
This was me exactly! I got to the hospital and they told me everything was moving along too fast and I didn't have time for the epi. I got to the hospital at 7:30 pm...and DD was born at 8:43 pm.

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth
Loved the epi! I was begging for it as soon as we got to the hospital. It didn't totally get rid of the pain--I could feel real minor contractions and they were very short, like I was only feeling the peak. Then I had a c/s, so I don't know about pushing. I had a lopsided epi, which they say is common. It affected my right more than my left and I couldn't move my right leg at all on my own, but I could handle my left side fine.
