Spinoff to Zoe's post re: birth plan---be sure your DH knows your medical history!
This is more in response to the part where Jen put in knowing answers to questions that might be asked of her.
Just a bit of hopefully helpful advice from a BTDT- Make sure your DH knows your medical history, JUST in case.
Yes, everything will be in your records, but for instance, in my case, after being in labor all day and pushing for 3 hours, DS would not come out, he was just stuck and wasn't moving. His heart rate was rapidly going down and they wanted me in an OR right away to get him out. So they had to up my epi right away (or maybe they even gave me a spinal, to be honest I have no idea...anyway) and I immediately threw up. It's not entirely uncommon to throw up from anesthesia, and I was fine, but I was literally vomiting all over myself. While this was happening, the nurses are pullling my gown off me, I'm buck naked, surrounded by labor nurses, my OB, the (male) anesthesiologist, the OB intern and the anesthesia intern (both again male). I was mortified I think more that I was throwing up then the fact that I was completlely exposed. The anesthesiologist starts asking me all sorts of routine questions about my medical history (surgery related) before we head in and my head was just swimming. It was like he was speaking greek. Thank god my DH knew all the answers or the process would have been held up longer for him to look at my records or wait for me to figure out what he was asking.
So, just a heads up, make sure your DH knows all about your history, and while he's at it, knows all about your wants as far as after the baby is born, just in case you need a C and are in recovery for a bit. I EBFed and was adamant about not giving DS a bottle at all...things like that I wanted DH to know just in case they tried to give DS one while I was in recovery.
