Spinoff..If you have an absentee landlord, would you shovel?
Our landlord is really good to us. I know that he doesn't live here. When its bad, we shovel a pathway. We need a pathway for an emergency. We put salt on the ground as well

no but my landlords sons still live in the house so they do it!! They do a really crappy job! But beggers can not be choosers.

Lets put it this way - my old place my landlord lived downstairs, in the 3 years that I lived there - not once did he shovel. 
I would just do it - your landlord would be so grateful
