Spitting up issues.....when does it stop...

So my DD is now 8 months and her spitting up is STILL NOT better....She has been on zantac since she is 2 1/2 months old... We go through 3-4 outfits a day as well as 6-7 bibs a day...(plus I go through a couple of shirts a day to) I am not exaggerating either...If I give her a 6 oz bottle she spits up AT LEAST 4 oz. She eats cereal 3 times a day with a fruit and/or a veggie and she still SPITS up. Chat Icon Chat Icon My one ped said that its normal but everyone else around me says there is no way it can be normal. I feel like I am constantly feeding her....she is gaining weight so at least thats good.
I took her to a gastro this past monday and he increased her zantac from .8ml to 2ml twice a day. He also is sending her for a Upper GI series to rule out anything...but he said after physical examination the Upper GI series will probably come back normal so not to get myself upset.

I have never known a baby to spit up this much and it just upsets me that my poor little girl crawls around the house all day and night spitting up everywhere, hours before she eats and hours after she eats.
She has been on a few other formulas and has always spit up this much so I know its not the formula.

If anyone has gone through this, please tell me it gets better!!

DS never had zantac but spit up a lot. Cereal and fruit helped a little but it really started to get better when he started table food. At 9 months I started with waffles and bread. I really feel like that helped keep everything down.

max is 18 months and is better but he can still if he eats too much-vomit or if he gets way upset-vomit. Sorry. I think..it eased up around 13-14 months for me. I know what you mean..you run out of clothes---constant vomit

Re: Spitting up issues.....when does it stop...

DS was similar although never on medication. He would spit up minutes before his next feeding (which would be almost 3 hours after his last bottle)
First they always so that the amount that comes out appears to be more than it actually is….
Next for DS it subsided a lot around 7 or 8 months.

My ped had suggested smaller feedings/less bottles and separating the bottle feedings from the food feedings. Now that your DD is eating more solids, maybe try cutting back each feeding by 1oz and see if that has any affect on her spitting up.

My DS is similar. He is about to turn 9 months. He just got better within the last couple of weeks.
He was switched from zantac to previcid around 4 months old from zantac. It has been working muich better. Zantac works at suppressing the acid, while previcid stops the production. I would ask the dr to switch. Also, be careful with zantac the dose it based on weight..so as they gain more they need a higher dose. .8ml seems like a small amount. My DS was up to 1.2 ml at around 4 motnhs. We saw a ped GI and said it could take up to 18 months to go away.
I just did a load of laundry the other day and only had 2 bibs and 4 burp cloths....I was amazed!!!!

Re: Spitting up issues.....when does it stop...

DD used to spit up a lot, but once she started sitting up more, she stopped. A pediatrician friend said a lot has to do with the weak stomach muscles when they are not sitting. She said it can take a while even after they learn to sit independently, but a lot comes from them sitting.

By sitting up, she meant indepently, not a tripod sit (using their hands in between their legs to support them) and not being placed. Being able to get to a sitting position on their own.

Good luck!

DD is almost 9 months and still spitting up...i guess she is considered a "happy" spitter...its not nearly as bad as it once was but its still happening frequently...im waiting for it to end.
