Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
what I think the funny thing is about the whole situation, is that the governor of NY had to hire a prostitue.
can't he get some strange a$$ on his own?? He had to pay for it?
at least Clinton got his jollies for free

Worse crimes have been committed IMO
but yet- Clinton, Spitzer should be impeached for not being able to keep it in there pants
yet- George W LIES and spends trillions on a war that has a foundation built on lies- and he gets to carry on wrecking our country
ITA
Clinton was impeached for lying under oath and Spitzer is being indicted for pandering, violating the Mann act and possibly for misappropriation of money...it wasn't merely because they couldn't keep it in their pants. IMO, the above are serious offenses committed by those in public office and shouldn't be tolerated on any level.

Please fill me in.
So far I only heard of allegations of money laudering (which I believe was said to be the beginning of the investigation by authorities) and being involved in a prostitution ring (for the money).
Where does the cheating comes?
I thought in was "involved" financially.
On top, those are just allegations so far, we don't know the extent of his personal involvement.
Supposedly he is "Client 9" of the escort service. Paying for a call girl to meet him in DC for a tryst.
oh...OK! He is a client.

If you are a big-mouth politician and aren't smart enough to keep it in your pants during your term then you are TOO STUPID to be running the state, IMO.
Oh and yes, he broke a few laws - bringing a prostitute OVER STATE LINES being one of the biggest -- um if he isn't smart enough to realize that....

no they shouldn't be- but my point is that our president shouldn't be allowed to get away with the horrible things he has done either
but people seemed more fired up over this and over Bill Clinton then over what George W Bush has done- it makes no sense to me
I find the Spitzer thing ironic- and almost comical - as if Guianni was found out to secretly be in the mob
I just think this country lets the LARGE mistakes go and goes nuts over the smaller ones

While I completely agree that Bush has done far worse in terms of ethics, causing thousands to die, this is a completely different issue.
I don't think Spitzer gets a free pass on the crimes he is alleged to have committed because Bush is a crappy president - just as I wouldn't excuse Bush's actions because Sadam Hussein was much worse.
I'm sure he will be disbarred for it, but he should resign if found guilty.

impeached because he cheated on his wife?
I'd say it is more because of the alleged crimes of soliciting a prostitute and money laundering

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
From what I read this morning, resigning is going to be part of the plea bargain he is making.
I have to say, I really hope he goes to jail, but I'm sure he won't. He arrested and sent to jail people who did the exact same thing as him. He ruined their lives by sending them to jail (which was the right thing to do). I just hope he experiences his own punishment, and that would be justice.

That's not what I said. I never said he should be impleached because he cheated on his wife. He's the Governor. Someone who should uphold the law and not break it...

Yes...he's a jerk and an adulterer...but he's human and made a mistake...a big one. I think we should wait it out a bit before we crucify him and call for his resignation. If he broke the law and it is determined as such...he should then resign. The beauty of this nation is that we are considered innocent until proven guilty. This man will have to live for the rest of his life knowing that he disgraced his family. That will be a significant punishment.
I agree!!! I don't think he should lose his job just because he cheated on his wife and got caught, but more so because of the shear size this is turning out to be. Unlike Clinton, there is more here than just him being with one woman, this has to do with a whole lot of them. also unlike Clinton, who was with an average woman, the woman/women Spitzer was with are paid for this as a job. But again beauty of this country-its just my honest opinion

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
A man cheating on his wife is not my business, a man cheating on his wife with a prostitute is also not my business, an ELECTED PUBLIC OFFICIAL caught up in an illegal prostitution ring, married or not, IS my business and it's embarassing -
This to me isn't just a guy that cheated on his wife or 'made a mistake' this is EXTREMELY poor judgement and a lack of respect for his position -

Honestly, the biggest issue for me is not that he cheated on his wife (I assume all politicians do that). Its that it was a prostitute. This is someone who spent years closing down prostitution rings, and here he goes financially supporting one. That is the biggest issue to me. He broke a law that he fought to enforce.
ITA...yes alot of people cheat politicians included but he cheated with a prostitute and prostitution is illegal.

I agree with Barbara said.
What Bush did/didn't do, what he may or may have not lied about, what he presented to Congress to get the go ahead to declare war has nothing to do with what other crimes are committed by other public officials. It's a completely separate issue. Also, I don't think that the country is sweeping what are "perceived" bad calls on Bush's part under the rug. I'm sure if Bush could be charged with committing a crime; he would have been. Being unpopular president with some unpopular policies is not a criminal offense.
The crimes Spitzer is being alleged to have committed are serious offenses. If he is to be found guilty or admit to these allegations; he most certainly should be prosecuted just as I would be. I find it even more dispicible that he has overzealously attacked others on a very personal level to extract big settlements and has stood on a moral soapbox while doing so.
