And how about soads with splenda? I've read that it's fine because it's sugar based.. Any advice to offer? TIA

Re: Splenda / Decaf coffee
My dr said splenda was okay, he prefered i avoided all artifical sweetners for my 1st trimester.
Decaf coffee is okay, just make sure you drink lots of water because coffee is a diuretic. ETA: same with diet soda-don't replace your water for soda, soda is also a diuretic.

Re: Splenda / Decaf coffee
I've been drinking diet soda with Splenda since the beginning. Besides coming from the sugar molecule, Splenda doesn't cross the placenta. The dietician said not to "substitute" caffeinated beverages for water, but that they do count for 1/2 the volume (a 12oz. glass counts as 6oz. of fluid). She said that decaf beverages are the same as water ounce for ounce.

It's actually the caffeine in coffee that acts as the diuretic.

Did the dietician say that? I wonder if opinions vary. Just like the whole deli meat thing :) My dr, now that I have complications, said that its the coffee/soda-decaf or not, something in it is a diuretic, and just to avoid them.
I wonder if it's just for my case since I have been having way to early contractions.

In pharmacy school, we were taught that it is the caffeine that is the diuretic. (Caffeine is also what is in those over-the-counter diuretics sold for PMS). Also, the dietician said that decaf tea (which I sometimes drink) is fine, and that I can count it as my water.
