Chat Icon when are you going? We are going with some friends next month... We didn't pick the place, we are going with two other couples and their kids and they picked it and we just said we would go. We are staying in the Galleria... I know nothing about it other than the website. My brother told me it was in the middle of no where and some throw backs the the 70's, but the place was ok.

I'm interested in hearing feedback too ...

Re: split rock resort- need input if youve stayed there

DH and I stayed there a few years ago in the winter. We had a private cabin in the woods. The grounds themselves are very nice, but the buildings are a bit out-dated and the food was just so-so.

We ended up leaving in a big hurry in the middle of the night - there was an incident with 2 love-crazy skunks right outside our cabin which resulted in quite the stink. It was quite comical, although the people at the front desk were less than helpful..... WE drove all the way back to L.I. with the windows open all the way in the middle of January!

Skunk incident aside - it was a nice place. I don't know if we would hurry back there, though.

Re: split rock resort- need input if youve stayed there

Me! Me!

We just stayed there last May and we were there a few years ago too...okay, I will try to make this brief....

The Galleria is the "main" building and where all the stuff happens. There is a movie theatre, a bowling alley, a gym, the pool, etc. If you stay in the housing areas, you will mostly get in your car and drive up to the Galleria every day.
We stayed in the "housing" units across from the Galleria entrance. It was nice, but definitely woodsy and outdated (although there is a jacuzzi in them) . They have not been updated in 10-15 years, but the point is them being rustic I guess.
As soon as you get there, get a schedule! They plan out a lot of cool things to do during the day; hikes, games, trivia, sports, etc. Even if you are not social - get out there and do it, they are fun! And PLAY BINGO! That was a blast and yes, you can win $$! I had to push DH to play, but he loved it! They have a lot of planned activites for the kids. We didn't have kids when we went, but I am sure they are good.
The restaurants there are "okay". The one in the Galleria is expensive and not really for kids. There is a pizza place down the hill by the lake (within the resort) which is okay, but small (p.s. good luck finding it Chat Icon ).
The lake looks like fun. They have paddle boats, etc. but we didn't go on them last year.
There is an ice cream shop, a gift shop and a snak shop in the Galleria.
They have a mini-golf course which is pretty good. When we were there, there were even deer walking around the resort and across the mini-golf area which was kinda cool.
When someone said it was in the middle of nowhere, they were right! Don't think you can leave the resort and be at fast food in 5 minutes - it's not happening Chat Icon . There is a Denny's about 10 minutes up the road which you might wind up at if you have kids with you.
Ok, ok, I can go on and on. If you have questions about anything, feel free to FM me at anytime. We stayed for about a week last year.

(before I forget - my review.... I give the place a B-. It was not my favorite vacation spot, but I also think we picked a lousy time of year to go (too cold). For a 4 days trip, I think you will do just fine and have plenty to do to enjoy yourself. Have fun!)

My husband and I stayed there a few years ago but we were only there in the winter. We enjoyed it. The skiing was fun.

Re: split rock resort- need input if youve stayed there

Hey Corinne, JT and I took a group of kids there a few years ago when we ran a travel camp. It's really cute, but I don't remember if there's anything to do for Olivia's age. It's definitely a cute place, but very noisey and chaotic since everyone's kids are running amuck all over the place. I mean, I guess that's what you can expect, right?

we stayed at split rock and in the new section the willowbrook area and it was really nice. we had fun and found some restaurants off of property that were good too. were planning on going back this summer but this time with some friends and family instead of just us.

Re: split rock resort- need input if youve stayed there

we have timeshare there at the mountain laurel part. We went during the fall foliage season and it was one of the best trips. My son really ejoyed himself and there was plenty for him to do as we were able to use the ammenties of split rock. We just loved the laid back feel of the trip and that is why we decided to purchase time share.

I too read the review on trip advisor and didnt find the negative ones to be true at all, we had nothing but a positive expirience

Re: split rock resort- need input if youve stayed there

We went with 2 other couples. While we enjoyed ourselves, the other couple we were with (and their 2 kids) had a bad experience (in thier words). We stayed in the Galleria (mainly because we wanted suites with a kitchen and 2 rooms for the kids). When they got to their room, there was plaster from the ceiling all over their kitchen floor. Then it poured later in the day and they literally had a flood in their room. They were told there were no other free rooms available to move. They b!tched a fit and were moved. Their new room wasn't any better, it had no working AC (this was in July!).

The other couple we were with - their 18 month old locked himself in the room Chat Icon When security was called (the key was in the room, so we couldn't get in), they were told the guy with all the keys was at the bank, he'd be back in half an hour Chat Icon The father of this kid was ready to smash in the window to the room. After what seemed like forever, the room was opened and the child was fine (albeit crying).

We lucked out, had no problems. Chat Icon I doubt we'd go back ourselved, and the other couples are certainly not going back. We thought it was fine for the money. I give the places we ate at a lot of credit for getting 6 adults and 5 kids in at the same table for breakfast and dinner every day.

I think if you stay anywhere other than the Galleria, you will be fine.
