Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
So, DS is a little over 2 & right now he has a toddler bed and dresser and a TON of toys.
We hopefully will be moving soon into our first home.
Should I just keep his current bed and dresser or splurge on a set, with a twin bed, dresser, and desk?
I'm one of those people who will keep it for a long time & keep it nice, but debating if this is normal to get "big boy" furniture at 2?
Or, is this standard?
Thanks for your future input!

I don't have kids so I may not know what I'm talking about but I would get it if its a twin bed that is good quality that he could use into his teen years - sounds cost effective to me...

I think that sounds like a great idea! If you get good furniture, it will last!
Actually, my sister is 14 years older than me and I got her furniture when I got my own room and I used it until I got married at 25 AND if I have a baby girl I am going to use it for her as well! I think that was a good investment

When I was around 8, my parents bought me my set from Etan Allen. I'm 36 years old now and the set still looks brand new and it's now in my DD's room.
ETA - we bought my 2nd DD furniture hoping it will last just as long.

i think it's worth it but it probably depends on whether your child plays in his room. my DS does not so i got him nice big boy stuff. meanwhile my living room furniture have taken a severe beating...

Re: Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
ds will be 4 in Sept. We just got him a really nice set of big boy furniture from Bobs. We're hoping it'll last for the long haul. What's really nice is they offer a "goof proof" guarantee, where if it gets any kind of scuffs or scratches, they will come and repair it to your satisfaction or replace it for free.
eta: we haven't done this sooner because he hasn't tried to get out of the crib once in all this time. We'd leave him in there forever if he wasn't getting a little brother in Aug
Although, I don't think he is the norm. Most of my girlfriends had their kids out of the crib by 2

DON'T DO IT!! for having kids that are sort-of well behaved, they have ruined every new peice of furniture i ever owned!
wait. just wait until they are 7 or 8. you will be so sad if your DC ruins something, Believe me!

I have purchased my kids brand new, great quality furniture when I moved them into their new big girl/boy beds.
it was such a great investment imo.. they will have it through their adolescent/teen/college years and can take it when they go! :)

Re: Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
We got DS a very nice bedroom set for his nursery & the crib converts into a full size bed (we had to buy bedrails)
I am also like you. I keep things nice & will show DS how to do the same. Drawing on walls & furniture is totally unacceptable to me. Anyway, his furniture was more money than min & DH's furniture so I guess I am a fan of spurging since it'll last him 18+ years.

Re: Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
Yes...
I always say splurge on good, quality furniture that lasts.... but I wouldn't get "kid" style furniture- I'd get regular furniture that will grown with your child.
when DD was 2 and we moved, I had my Dad (he is a vendor on here- dynamic Kitchens & furniture) make my DD a pottery-barn style bedroom set in white painted maple.... I'm pretty sure she'll have this until she moves out of the house!!! I got her a full-size bed with a tall bookcase headboard and four drawers underneath

We did-we bought DD her "big girl" furniture when she moved into her big girl room at 2. If you have it, I say go for it.

Re: Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
When I was PG with both my kids I wanted something that would last. Both of the cribs turn into full size beds and their furniture looks far from juvenile.
I do not allow my kids to play in there rooms and DS who is 4, the furniture is in excellent condition. Not one nick or scratch. DD's set is 3 years old and hers still looks great except I regret getting black for her because it is painted not stained so you notice some marks. Otherwise it still looks beautiful.

We bought both DC good quality furniture when they were born. I think it's age neutral, and I plan on them not getting new furniture for basically as long as they live with us.

Re: Splurging for Kids Furniture? Thoughts?
We have big boy furniture for our 2 y/o but only b/c the crib converted to a full size bed...so he will have it until he moves out!
If i were you I'd keep the toddler bed till he outgrows it. I do wish we had a toddler bed, they are so cute :) DS's bed now is so big forhis lil body and it looks horrible w/the bed rails.
