SPR... gift cards for teachers

I want to get Mason's daycare teachers a gift card. I was going to do a gift certificate to a store, but thought it would be better to let them use the money where they want. Where are you getting yours? Should I just go to my bank and get one? Do they charge? I belong to Wachovia

Thanks

I'm not sure about getting stuff from a bank, but as a teacher, I LOVE getting gift cards to Target. It's a universal store where you can get prety much anything. Chat Icon

I was thinking that, but we're giving the teacher $50. I don't want to give them a check so I thought one of those American Xpress cards or Visa gift cards that has $$ on it and they can use it anywhere like a cc.

I know if you buy the AmEx or Visa cards at stores (I've seen them all over, CVS, Rite Aid, etc) they charge like $5 to activate each card! Chat Icon I refuse to pay an activation fee on a gift card, so I never buy them, though I certainly would if there was no fee!

Yikes... a fee! Do they do that with any gift card? I just didn't want to pick a store that the teachers don't really go to so I thought the Visa or Amex would work Chat Icon

Re: SPR... gift cards for teachers

I have an account at TD Bank (formerly Commerce) and you can get Master card gift cards there without a fee if you have an account (min. of $25). That's what I get.

If I had to pay an extra $5 for the fee, I would just get a store card like Target, Panera, Dunkin Donuts, etc. and put the extra $5 on the card if I was going to have to spend it anyway.
