Re: SPR- how do i start planning a trip to disney world?
I use their website. Disney.com and start from there. I have AAA so I usually go sit down with them and get more info and pricing.
Here’s some questions I ask myself:
• What kind of hotel do I want? (I usually do mid size) • Where do I want to be (I love being on the river so I choose Port Orleans French Quarter, but once I did the POP places) • What do I want to do? (Is it for kid stuff or adult stuff) • What kind of deals do those things have (we got Cirque de Soliel tickets on a package once) • How long do I want to stay (Get better deals on longer stays for tickets) • Do I need single entry or Park Hoppers? • Will I be going to Universal (for Disney World) or any other attractions outside Disney? • Do I want a meal plan (I LOVE LOVE LOVE the meal plan) • Do I need to book reservations for those meals? (Do you want character dining) • Will you want any of the special add-ons (I got a full day spa thing for a day just to myself once) • How much money am I willing to spend? • What are the ‘must have’ parts of my vacation and what can I give up?
With all this, most travel agents can help you trim it down. Then if its cheaper I’d book it myself! hahaha
ETA: if you're traveling with kids.. they have a great Mom's Forum for questions, tips, ideas, etc. Its on their website.

This is a BIBLE to WDW... from hotels to tickets to car rental tips to save $$ and time. I was @ WDW last month and used this site.
also the the Offical Guide to WDW is a good book, lots of reviews.
Have a blast and dont worry!

Re: SPR- how do i start planning a trip to disney world?
I start with airfare if I'm not tied to a specific week. Once I find inexpensive airfare then we start researching hotels. I have Disney timeshare but when we go down sometimes we stay off property because it is so much less expensive and we rent a car regardless.
If you have the entertainment book I use the codes in there to get discounts on rental cars.
If we stay on property we decide how much money we are willing to spend for the hotel and work from there.
My mom always goes on mousesavers.com and disboards.com to get info.
We usually buy our park tickets from ticketmania.com because usually they work out to be a little less expensive
BUT I believe Disney is running a special right now where if you book 5 nights/6 days through them you can get up to a $750 gift card for use while you are down there.
