Re: SPR:xpost - to those that live/own a cape,please come in
We don't have a cape, but we live in a 3 bedroom tudor house where 2 bedrooms are upstairs and 1 is downstairs.
Right now the downstairs room is an office/spare bedroom.
Upstairs, DS has his own room and we share our room with DD who is 7 months.
Eventually we are going to have DD and DS share one room for several years. Then DH and I may eventually move into the room downstairs so that the kids are together upstairs.
But we aren't going to worry about that for several years and I am sure it will be fine once all is said and done!
I say if you love the house, you will make it work.

We have a cape and I feel the same as u do. I dont want to be on a seperate floor from my kids at least while they are young anyway. We have 2 bedrooms upstairs and my 2 kids share a room. But we may have a third child. I want to half dormer so we can get an extra bedroom on top. We will see.
Capes have alot of potential w/ dormers or extensions.... But we had children right away and didnt have the money $$$ to do a dormer. Hopefully we can in the future.
If u def. have the $$$ to do a dormer eventually, then go for it. good luck

I have a cape with a master suite upstairs and 2 bedrooms on the first floor. DD is on the first floor alone and I am upstairs. I have an alarm with contacts on her windows as additional protection and not just the doors. I have never had an issue or felt uncomfortable with the arrangements. I love having my own space
