St. Petersburg/Clearwater & Vicinity - where to stay...
Any recommendations? What should I expect to pay... Mon - Wed in July...everything I'm seeing is around $220/nite. Is that the norm or can I find a better deal somewhere?

I dont know if you are intersted but here are some site that have villa rentals. You can also try hotels in Largo and Duniden both are a couple of minuets drive to Clearwater. My dad lives in Largo and it takes about 5 min. from his house to the beach.

this link might be helpful to you. I think you really have to decide where you want to stay since St. Pete is about a 20-25 minute drive from Clearwater beach. also decide if you want to drive to the beach or just walk out of your hotel. My dad lives in Treasure Island so I don't know much about hotels, sorry I can't help you there.
That area of the Gulf Coast is beautiful and the beaches are great. Not sure of the price but you should def. check out the Don Cesar it's a beautiful pink hotel, we've gone there for cocktails and it's right on the beach.
gulf coast beaches
have fun - it's going to be hot in July!

When we went last summer we stayed at the Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort -- it was really nice, the rooms are great. It was very reasonable -- something like $150 for a one bedroom suite. It's a little north though in the Palm Harbor area but I don't think it's that far from clearwater.

We are staying on Madeira Beach which is on the gulf coast by Clearwater and St. John's Pass.
We found a place for $145 a night. July is the low season- you shouldn't have to pay that much!
we are staying here:
