St. Thomas & St. John

Dh and I plan to go to St. John in April, we are wondering if we should spend a couple of days in St. Thomas too? What do you suggest?

Re: St. Thomas & St. John

Personally I didnt like St. Thomas. We stayed in a villa on st. john for our honeymoon and spent one day on St. Thomas and that was enough...this is where all the cruise ships dock so full of tourists - at least that is what I saw of it. St John is lovely...quiet but beautiful beaches and very relaxing.

Enjoy your trip.

St. Thomas is nice, but i don't think you'd need more than a day there. some of the streets look Very ghetto, but then there's some nice ones also.

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas for a week. We loved it. They have a sail boat that you can take over to St. John if you want to. There are some good restaurants. The town itself is crowded and full of tourists but if you are just going to relax, the ritz is really nice. We loved it!

If you have a couple of extra days spend them in St.John. We spent 4
days in St.John last year than 4 days at the Ritz in St.Thomas it was nice but the whole time we kept saying that we wish we would of just stayed in St.John the whole time St.Thomas was nice but after a day we were ready to leave.

OK, where should I start. Neenie, you stated that some of the streets are Ghetto! Are there not Ghetto streets in every state, island, or country? To me all the islands are nice in there own way. They all have something to offer. If your looking for somewhere to just get away and relax then St.John is great for that, but I think you should go to St.Thomas for the experience. One of the posters said that there are too many tourist. Well, how do you think we (meaning the locals) feel about all these people coming and going all the time. That is the main reason I don't go home as often anymore! Yes, we depend on tourism don't get me wrong, but it's just ridiculous! All the islands have places that are even more beautiful than tourists will ever get to see. That's just because only locals know and go to those places. The U.S. Virgin Islands are great to go visit for Americans, but not good enough to get all the privileges that Americans have, go figure! To the main poster just keep in mind that it's a different cultural and if you do go, go for a couple of hours. It's only a short boat ride away. Have a safe trip and a good time!

Yes i stated that- many places do have 'ghetto' streets... but i like to know about them before i travel to them (as most places don't tend to advertise that they have some less desireable areas). I'm not sure why you're offended at me stating fact. I loved it there, but No, you really don't need more than a day if you're jsut sightseeing... AND isn't that better for the locals, too, so its one less tourist that they need to deal with Chat Icon

so we're in agreement????

seriously... who gets offended on the Travel board?! Chat Icon Chat Icon If someone asked about Brooklyn, and there was a response that it had ghetto areas, i don't think i'd get my panties in a bunch- it is what it is.

Now, how do you figure that I'm offended. Any one with common sense should know, no matter where you go there are going to be places that are "Ghetto". I'm just stating my opinion the same way you did! As far as your comment "AND isn't that better for the locals, too, so its one less tourist that they need to deal with". If you were that tourist I would totally agree!!Chat Icon
