Star checks
I always forget, when do the star checks and property relief checks usually get sent out?

The star exemption is a credit, but I also get a property tax relief check for a few hundred from NY state each year...

If you bought after 2015 you get a check, it doesn’t come off in your escrow payment

Not sure when star goes out. But the property tax start usually go out September/October but not everyone gets them at the same time!
This will be the last year you get a check and it will be the highest amount from the past years.

If you bought after 2015 you get a check, it doesn’t come off in your escrow payment
To make it even more confusing....NYS wants people to switch to getting a check every year instead of the credit to your tax bill if you bought before 2015. If you switch to the check, your STAR savings will go up or down accordingly. If you stay as a credit, your savings is stagnant.
I believe if you make over $250,000, you are automatically enrolled in getting a check even if you had received a credit in the past.

Why the last year?
im not 100% sure something about being fully phased in so maybe its a break on your taxes when you file or your property taxes will go down. i didnt really research that well to see why its the last year
