Started cleaning out Grandma's apartment...

And it was so hard...She and my Grandfather saved some awesome stuff though. I hate going through their personal things though We found great pictures and things like that that were in perfect condition. It just made me miss her and my Grandfather even more

My heart goes out to you.

We cleaned out my grandmothers apartment in a month flat after she passed..which brought us to right before Christmas. She lived in the same building as my mom, and my mom grew up in that apartment. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I took a ton of pictures that I havent been able to look at. My mom still lives in that building and she has to see the new tenants going inn there. Its awful.

The weekend the super took the keys..we went away. None of us wanted or was able to deal with it. But cleaning it out brought back great memories and stories...its amazing the things we found. I pray for your strength as you go through this!!

I'm in the midst of cleaning out my grandparents house. Talk about an emotional roller coaster! Some of the things you come across really are amazing though.

Kathleen I know how rough it is. My family just set up a tag sale at our family home and to think that other people will be owning things I grew up with (whether I liked them or not) breaks my heart. I don't even know if I could be there on that day. Its just going to be too hard. I know I will NEVER be able to drive up that block again once the house is sold.

I almost wish that we could all take and divide EVERYTHING because I would much rather see our family treasures in each others' homes than with a stranger.

Hang in there and try to look at things with positive memories.

Kathleen I know all too well what that is like. I can remember cleaning out my grandparents apartment after my grandfather had passed away & my grandma was still alive but in a nursing home incoherent. It was the worst feeling but like you, we found some amazing things. We all were able to pick & choose what we wanted to keep. I have added a lot of accents to our house that were my grandparents & it makes me feel as if they are with me all the time

It is a hard thing to do, going thru your Grandmothers things.
But look at this way....You get another chance to see what was important in your grandparents life. The saved Pictures, the letters, and the mementos.

I had to clean out my parents home two years ago.

We found every program from every graduation, communion, confirrmation etc...they saved it all..that really touched me
