Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
So I went in today for my sono and blood work, and just got the call that I can start my clomid tomorrow.
Since this is my first cycle, can anyone tell me their experience with clomid? Any side effects? Should I take it at a certain time?
I am going back in next Saturday, CD12 for a sono and blood work to see where I am at. What usually happens at that point?

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
The only side effect I would get on Clomid were hot flashes. I'd start getting them late in the afternoon around day 3 on the pills, and they last for about 3 or 4 days past.
Your CD12 sonogram will see if any follicles are growing. I don't O on my own, and O very late on Clomid too (usually around CD21), but that's my experience, everyone is different. Are you doing IUI this cycle, and will you be receiving the trigger shot? Once they reach a certain size, if you are doing IUI w/trigger, they will give you the injection and tell you when to come back for the IUI. I've found from reading there that they way things are done vary from RE to RE. In my case, I would get the trigger, and come back two hours later for my first IUI, and then come back the following morning for my 2nd IUI.

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
As I have posted before, Clomid was not good for me as far as side effects go but lots of women have little or none. The worst for me was depression, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, and headaches. Once you hit CD12 they will monitor you closely to see how the follicles are maturing. Once they hit around 18-20 mm. they might give you a trigger shot to cause you to ovulate. Then you either have your IUI or get to BDing. GL!

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
For me the only side effects were hot flashes and some trails in my vision ...When I was on 100mg I took the pills in the PM- When I was bumped up to 150mg I was told I could split my pills up 2 in the AM and 2 in the PM...Usually at your sono they will just be checking to see how much your follies have grown and tell you to come back in a couple of days depending on where your at

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
I didn't really have any side effects. But, it made me O sooner than normal, like CD 11 and it made my CD longer (like 31 days). My cycles are usually like clockwork when left alone O on CD14 and CD28.

Do u think CD12 is late for my first sonogram for monitoring? I wonder if I'll O sooner than later....

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
I was told to take it at night to minimize the hot flashes. I still had them at night and I am so glad I did not have to suffer with them during the day. I did get horrible headaches with it as well. CD 12 may be late, clomid also increases the size of your follies. At my cd 11 sono I had 3 follies 2 15s and a 19. My RE did not have me come back until cd 13 and my follies were 2 16s and a 27!! I triggered then and went back cd 15 for IUI, which I think was too late. I think my big one was too big and my others too small. I should have gone for a cd11 and 12 sono and triggered at 12. As long as you have the script or have filled the trigger shot by the time you go for the sono you should be fine.

I've had hot flashes and dizzyness. The symptoms seem to get worse as the dosage increases.

Everyone is different. I'm sure you are being monitored. It all depends on your follie size and your LH surge. Are you using an HCG shot? I tell you my first month I felt so in the dark on what was going on. Hopefully you wont have to learn the drill.

You know what makes a difference too, what CD you start Clomid. Some docs are day3 (which is what I had), some are day5 etc...

Re: Starting a clomid cycle...need some help
I'm on my 3rd Clomid cycle. I haven't really had any side effects except for hot flashes and I usually take my pill at night before going to bed.
I tend to ovulate early on Clomid, so I would recommend using an OPK starting on day 10. Last cycle I was due for monitoring on day 12, but I got my surge on day 11. If I hadn't taken the test I would have missed ovulation.
Good Luck!

I am starting on CD5 and ending on CD9. The PA told me to come back for CD12 testing and when the nurse called, she said CD10. I told the nurse the PA said CD12 and she said to go by what the PA said. Now I'm worried...
BTW, I just picked up my clomid, and was reading the instructions. It says that clomid should not be used for more than six cycles - I thought it was up to 12. Just wondering what everyone else has been told...

I am a patient at LI IVF and Dr. Brenner recommended only 3 cycles of Clomid before moving on to something different. I think that 3 tries of any treatment is what a lot of RE's recommend before moving on to something different. Clomid should not be taken for prolonged periods of time because it can thin out uterine lining.

I am also a patient of Dr. Brenner's, so your advice is very helpful
Thanks!

I will start using a OPK on CD10 (just in case). If I get a positive reading, do I call the doctor ASAP to get in to be checked out? When you get a positive, when do you usually O?
