Starting cereal ques.
Where is the best place/best brand to buy rice cereal? What other items do I have to get? Bowl, spoon, is that it?? I feel clueless, just when we got BF and Bottle feeding down, now a new thing to get used to

You can get it anwhere babyfood is sold. I usually get it at Target, but you just follow the directions on the box for the first time...you need a bowl, spoon and BM or formula to mix in.

Re: Starting cereal ques.
Do you make a bottle first and then use a tbsp to measure it? How many ounces is 5 tbsp?

Re: Starting cereal ques.
I made a bottle first, then took a tbsp and measure out 1 tbsp of cereal to 4 tbsp of formula . Cereal I use Gerber and get it wherever I am shopping. Bowls and spoons I got the Gerber take and toss ones, I don’t toss them often but they aren’t too much and if I am out and they get dirty I don’t feel bad tossing them.
Follow your DD’s lead, DS caught on very quickly to eating off a spoon, and I felt it was hard to feed him with that consistency of the cereal (almost like soup) so I beefed it up pretty quickly.

Same thing here...We have done rice, barley and started oatmeal yesterday. She hated rice, loved barley and doesn't seem to like oatmeal, although I will see today how she is...
I only did the "soupy" type on the first try with each one, then I put less liquid in...
At first it's hard to gauge whether they like it or just are confused about the textures. Then you will be able to tell if they readily open their mouth or keep a vice grip on it (exactly what DD did for rice).
It's so funny though - get that camera ready!

I don't really measure, I just did it by eye. DD didn't like it watery at all..and has preferred it thicker since day 1. It's all trial and error. GL!

Re: Starting cereal ques.
You can get it anywhere in any baby food section.
I didn't measure - just did it by eye to the consistency I like.
I prepared the bottles and then would pour some formula into the bowl. You will need some bowls and spoons. Also, you may want to get the bowls with lids on them in case you travel and have to make cereal on the go!
You'll get the hang of it in no time!
ETA: Be ready that your DC won't take to it right away. It took my son 8 tries until he finally realized what he was supposed to do with it. I've read that it can take up to a week for them to get used to the consistency!

Why do you move from rice to barely and oatmeal? Do you eventually stay with one or mix it up each day?

Re: Starting cereal ques.
We started with oatmeal. Bound DS up pretty bad (see previous post about poop problems).
So now we are on hold with any food until his system gets back on track. We will probably try Barley next. Ped told us to stay away from rice because it's the most binding of all.

not sure if it's the same reason as the OP but my doc said to try a week of each to make sure there were no allergies and after that to switch it up
