State Farm home ins. rate hike?
Did anyone else get an increase in their homeowner's ins. policy? I just got my renewal and it's about $150 more than last year. I was told it was due to a rate hike.

Call your agents office, see if there is room to lower it....higher deductible? Dwelling is where it needs to be and not over 100%? etc.
Market has been very tough out there for all homeowners.

Do you live on the South Shore? I recently heard about insurance rates going up. I use MetLife, and in the list of Ins. Cos. with prices going up MetLife was not included. Maybe you could get a quote.

Yes, mine went up $200.
ETA: I called around to get estimates from other companies and they were $1,000 more a year b/c many companies now consider ALL of Long Island a hurricane zone Just a way to get more money...

I disagree with this (not that the rate hikes don't suck). A lot of people, not just insurance companies, consider Long Island to be a hurricane zone. If "the big one" hits here, they could have problems paying out on their policies if they don't factor the expense in now. I would rather pay for flood insurance now than have to deal with paying exponential rates like some areas that have been hit with bad hurricanes do.

This sucks! But I think I'm going to stick with them b/c of how great their customer service is and payout is god forbid we ever need it.
Yeah my agent told me that we're lucky they're still writing policies for homes on LI b/c they consider LI a hurricane zone.
