Stenosis- physiatrist

I have moderate stenosis in my neck and back as well as several herniated disks and facet disease. The pain has gotten so bad lately. I have seen neurologists, orthopedists, and physical therapists.I have also had epidural injections. Nothing is helping me except one type of pain pill they have given me (tramadol). I have just made an appointment with a physiatrist (which was requested by a friend of mine). What should I expect during this appointment- I am not quite sure what they will do and recommend for me. Any input would be greatly appreciated! I just want this pain to go away.

Personally, I would recommend seeing a chiropractor. From my experience, medicine only masks the pain but doesn't fix it. The chiropractor I see uses electrical stimulation, ultrasound and stretching with the adjustments and its so helpful in getting rid of the pain and realigning the spine. I have referred so many of my friends and family to my chiropractor because she helped me so much. I thought I would be nervous going to the chiropractor but it was just the opposite. I have never felt better. If you want her info just pm me. Good luck!
P..S. I have never been to a physiatrist so I wouldn't know what to expect. I would imagine it's more like pain management where they prescribe medicine.

a physiatrist is an md that specializes in rehabilitation medicine, and will test your muscle strength, range of motion etc and they usually recommend physical or occupational therapy.

sometimes it just takes finding the right physical therapist. unfortunately we all aren't 'built' the same.

i'm sorry to hear you haven't had success with any treatment other than the pain med so far. you could also consider seeing a pain management specialist. good luck and hope you feel much better!

I didn't find that a physiatrist did much that was different from any of the other MDs.
